Date Night - A Movie Review

'Date Night' is a thrilling adventure

I only wanted a date night, not chasing villains all night long!

Date Night spun into theaters in 2010. Phil and Claire go out on an extravagant date night. Finding themselves in a predicament way over their heads, the couple did not expect to be involved in a murder case racing around the city all night.

I was bellowing in laughter throughout this whole movie! Date Night is the type of comedy that we (or I) need to see more of. Filled with endless bouts of hilarious comedy, Date Night is a thrilling adventure that also explores the necessity of romance for married couples.

Steve Carell and Tina Fey are the ultimate comedic duo. Phil and Claire only wanted to garner more spark in their marriage, not get themselves into a dangerous predicament. Carrell and Fey delivered jokes splendidly with their trademark comedic timing.

Carell's endearing awkwardness and Fey's sharp wit create a perfect comedic energy that keeps the audience laughing throughout. They did a great job in several scenes, but their most memorable was when they were arguing in the car about their relationship.

During the wild night, Phil and Claire run into an assortment of people. Date Night has a great ensemble cast and cameos. Starring as Claire’s hunky client, Mark Wahlberg was a riot in his scenes. He becomes an unexpected ally in the situation.

The film also stars Taraji P. Henson in another versatile role as a detective. Watch carefully as there are several blink-and-you-miss-it cameos. That’s what makes the film all the more memorable. Not only do we have no idea what’s going to happen next, you never know who you will meet next.

Shawn Levy’s impeccable direction distributed a unique comedy with jokes you don’t see enough of anymore. Most credit goes to Carell and Fey but most credit is due to the ensemble. Everyone understood the assignment and delivered memorable performances.

I wasn’t expecting all the action sequences in the film. Levy made this a visually engaging film for audiences. If you think movies have run out of ideas for car chases wait until you witness this one! Date Night has the best (and different) car chase. Common has the best cameo in this scene as the other taxi driver.

Taking place in New York City, viewers travel all over the city on this one night. Phil and Claire continuously run around streets, into various apartments,

Date Night is one endless laugh after another. The comedy is funny and doesn’t try too hard. I like when comedy movies do that, letting viewers take in what they determine is funny. The reason why the comedy works is due to the cleverly written fast-paced dialogue and comedic banter.

One of the most impressive aspects of Date Night is its witty and sharp screenplay. Combining elements of romance, action, and adventure, Date Night occupies a clever script that wasn’t afraid to take a risk in its storytelling. Not only is it comedic, but it also balances genuine dramatic moments.

Marriage is an important time, but as shown in Date Night, it also has its challenges. All couples must take time for themselves and communicate any problems. It explores themes of love, trust, and the importance of taking risks in a relationship, giving the film depth beyond its comedic surface.

Packed with action, well-acted drama, and hardcore laughs, couples should put Date Night on their list. I watched this movie with my grandmother and we were laughing the entire time. We were also sad that it had to end!
