Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, a new anime based on CD Projekt RED's video game that it is producing with Studio Trigger for Netflix.

For some time now, Netflix has been betting on anime and video game adaptations. Within these video game adaptations for Netflix, a series that has just landed on the platform and has been highly anticipated by fans is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an anime based on the universe of the video game Cyberpunk 2077 by CD Projekt RED, who produces the adaptation together with a big name in the anime industry such as Studio Trigger.

For those who have not played the video game, it presents us with a dystopian future in the year 2077 and its events take place in Night City, a megacity located in the free state of northern California that is controlled by corporations and where the laws of both the country and the state seem to have no effect.

This makes the city rife with corruption and is in constant wars between rampant gangs and their ruling entities vying for dominance of territories.

Homelessness abounds, but does not preclude cyber modification for the poor, resulting in cosmetic addiction and subsequent violence, obsessing over technology and cyber augmentations.

Under this premise, the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners series follows the story of David Martinez, a street kid trying to survive in Night City. Due to a tragic event, David is forced to get a military implant and become an "Edgerunner", a mercenary also known as cyberpunk.

And this is as far as the review goes, because it is better if you enjoy the experience without knowing too many details of the plot, as it has several shocking twists practically from the beginning of the series.

With a total of ten episodes, the series is so addictive and entertaining that it will make you watch Cyberpunk: Edgerunners in record time, whose plot becomes practically rounded from beginning to end in which nothing is missing: action, violence, blood, sex, love, comedy, drama…

All this accompanied with an excellent animation quality under the direction of Hiroyuki Imaishi, filmmaker behind other productions such as Promare, as well as the episode The Twins of the anthology series Star Wars: Visions. Also directing the series with him is Masahiko Otsuka, who directed the episode The Old Man from Star Wars: Visions and other popular series such as Fruits Basket.

To say that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is an audiovisual delight is an understatement. The expressions of the characters, the setting of the scenarios, its colorfulness, the fast-paced action sequences.

To its impressive visual quality must be added the sound, with an outstanding music whose soundtrack has been composed by Akira Yamaoka, the former Konami composer especially known for creating the music for the Silent Hill horror videogame saga.

In addition, the songs that accompany a good part of the episodes are a delight, especially its opening, which is pure gold.

The truth is that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners can be reproached for little, perhaps that some of the action sequences are so fast that if you blink you might miss a few things.

While the story leaves a fairly closed denouement, that does not mean that Netflix will not give the green light to another season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, although according to the latest news it seems that there will not be a new season, which is a pity.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is now available on Netflix for streaming worldwide.
