Cinema's Top 5 Treasure-Hunting Hotties

Gorgeous adventurers to make you swoon

I have a type.

I've come to the realization that my dream men aren't blondes or football players or guys over 5'9. They're treasure hunters. Of the fictional variety, of course.

Some of my favorite characters in film are good-looking guys in search of adventure—those intelligent, husky, flirtatious bad boys with a strong moral compass and soft spot for their leading ladies. Here are the top five:

1. Rick O'Connell — The Mummy

Why save the best for last? There is no hotter treasure-hunting hunk than The Mummy's Rick O'Connell. Brendan Fraser's iconic role as the quick-witted, drop-dead gorgeous tour guide/mummy-killer set the standard for the sexy, sarcastic male lead. Rick is generous, protective, and hilarious. Solid ten out of ten.

For those who don't know, we're currently in the midst of a much-needed Brenaissance. Never forget what Hollywood did to this man, and support his new films, No Sudden Move and The Whale.

2. Indiana Jones — Raiders of the Lost Ark

Indiana Jones is the OG treasure hunter. An archaeology professor by day and total badass... apparently whenever he feels like skipping work(?), Indy is smart as a whip and is always on the hunt for some dangerous, supernatural artifact.

Unlike the villains in his stories, Indy seeks not fortune or glory, but historical preservation. He believes that the valuable objects he finds belong in a museum, and he nobly fights to keep them out of the hands of the power-hungry fascists and commies who want to use them for nefarious reasons. And he looks damn good doing it.

3. Jack Sparrow — Pirates of the Caribbean

He may be a raging alcoholic who loves his rum, but Captain Jack Sparrow is also an ardent treasure enthusiast. From the cursed Aztec gold of Cortez and the heart of Davy Jones to the chalices of Ponce de León and the Fountain of Youth, Jack's always on the hunt for some grand treasure that will immortalize him in pirate history (and possibly even make him immortal).

There's just something about this look, designed by Depp himself, that I find incredibly attractive. I think it's the eyeliner.

This is Johnny Depp's sexiest role to date. I will not be taking questions at this time.

4. Ben Gates — National Treasure

There's also something about a man dedicated to protecting his nation's founding documents that I find incredibly attractive. For years, Ben Gates' belief in the Templar Treasure makes him the object of scorn in history circles, but he is ultimately vindicated when he pieces the Founding Fathers' cryptic clues together and discovers what they left for him to find.

Like Indiana Jones, Ben believes that the artifacts he finds belong to the people, and he turns down the offer of a 10% finders fee on the multibillion-dollar treasure he's spent his life tracking down. Intelligence is always a plus, and this man is chock-full of cool historical facts and random trivia. Ben is proof that you don't need a gun, whip, or sword to be a badass.

I mean, the man stole the Declaration of Independence, for crying out loud.

5. Evie Carnahan — The Mummy

Okay, so I said this was a list of boys. But you didn't think I'd stop with Rick O'Connell, did you? Look at this woman. She edged out Pirates of the Caribbean's Elizabeth Swann for this spot.

Evie is the brilliant, brave, gorgeous librarian whose love of Egyptology always seems to get her in trouble. So she awakened a 3,000-year-old mummy and brought down a plague and a bunch of other stuff... who among us hasn't made mistakes? But she meant well and looked flawless the entire time. And it was her brains that fixed the problem, so.
