Maurice Benard: State of Mind

Bryton James who portrays Devon Hamilton on The Young and the Restless was recently interviewed by Maurice Benard who plays Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital. Benard has a popular podcast titled State of Mind where he has other actors to share their truth. This is exactly what James did when asked if he ever wanted to remarry or have children and he replied no.

Benard suggest that the Y&R actor might change his mind later but James said he did not think he would. This caused me to reflect on the number of people who say I should remarry since my husband of 40 years passed away. When I tell them I know I will not remarry they keep trying to convince me I will. I can understand any angst James has when he makes his position clear but it is not accepted. The soap vet has a very good reason for desiring to remain childless but it is not what many think it may be.

Bryton James: His intentions are crystal clear

Many times those who grew up in abusive situations or poverty say they will not marry or have children because they do not want to repeat their parent's mistakes. James married Ashley Leisinger on March 16, 2011, and the ceremony was officiated by Christian LeBlanc who portrays Michael Baldwin on The Young and the Restless. In 2014 James announced that he and Ashley were divorcing and he is naturally gun shy about making that commitment again which is understandable.

James' reason for not wanting to have children, however, is quite surprising. He told Maurice Benard during the interview that he grew up as an only child in a loving household with 2 parents. He saw their struggles and sacrifice to raise him and that caused the actor to make a decision. He decided that he did not want to have children because his career path will not allow him to give them 100 percent.

Bryton James: Marriage and children are not on his plate

The actor also shared that he married young and it ended in divorce and he does not desire to marry again. Benard, who has been married 30 years suggested that 10 years down the road, James might change his mind. The reply was that although it is possible he did not think he would. Bryton is currently dating and living with his Y&R castmate Brytni Sarpy who portrays Elena Dawson.

The actress previously had the role of Valerie Spencer on General Hospital and was the cousin of Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) who is Benard's on-screen wife. Sarpi and James have been together since 2019 and many Y&R fans were disappointed that their onscreen romance did not go anywhere. There is nothing on record regarding how the 34-year-old actress feels about marriage and children.

Bryton James: A strong connection with 2 co-stars

James was born to Eric Mcclure who passed away in 2016 and his wife Betty Mcclure. Eric was a musician, songwriter, and music producer who exposed his son to music at an early age. Devon Hamilton's portrayer says his best friend is Christel Khalil who portrays his on-screen sibling Lily Winters Ashby. He says they practically grew up together and have endured some of the same struggles in the entertainment business.

Bryton is the godfather to Khalil's son, Michael Caden and also godfather to Ford Goddard the oldest son of Daniel Goddard who used to play Cane Ashby on The Young and the Restless. Be sure to keep up with James on Y&R and Maurice Benard on General Hospital as both actors are in front burner storylines,
