'Twas the fight before Christmas, The invention of lying, Good Sam, Compulsive Liar, and Despite Everything.

The 'brief and not-so-brief opinions' articles are my outlet to rant about or appreciate movies, shows and their elements. I will express my thoughts while watching and after or only after watching, it depends. I will not be rating. These are not spoiler-free for the most part and no research will be made for or about them(unless curious or accidental which would be mentioned). They are in no particular order of recent watching as well. However, the opinions are in order of viewing the movie or show (for the most part). This wouldn't be as structured or detailed as well and there would be no set number of picks per article, it would be just as things go. It is intended to be casual. So think, conversations about movie plots, characters, topics-so something like that.

Good Sam (2019)

Kate is a reporter. She works to uncover the ongoing anonymous good deeds as well as the person and intentions behind them. It was a good movie inspiring hope and purity in others to be Good Samaritans as well.

  • Utterly shocked that this is a documentary. I thought it was similar to a mockumentary but apparently not.
  • An unapologetic Christmas-loving man.
  • I mean, whatever makes you happy I guess.
  • People have what they love and are obsessive about, the extent may vary but still.
  • He ambitiously spreads joy and puts on a show as a showman as he says that he's following his grandfather's footsteps.
  • Don't see what's wrong. Yet, at least.
  • Lmaooo, his ministry. Well, he gathers a congregation(following of alike thinkers/believers) and spreads joy when people need it most (during the holidays). Hm.
  • I just can't believe this is unironic, haha. I think it's the way it's filmed not really about the situation or person. It's not bad by any means just seems satirical.
  • Also, Jeremy and Kristy decided to go buy a new house, immediately went to look for it and put an offer in. Good for them.
  • Jeremy is a lawyer but his passion for Christmas makes him happy.
  • He's been doing this from a young age and it just elevated as he grew. Still not seeing what's wrong.
  • I think it's also stemmed from a certain type of seriousness you don't particularly expect from a topic like this but I'm still watching.
  • Still waiting to see how things will go.
  • "Undesirables"? Wow!
  • Hmmm.
  • The HOA board members do not want the kind of big Christmas party he regularly throws. He put it together for varying reasons and received a letter that threatened that ability while using unsavoury words and sharing unsavoury opinions. So he decided to push back.
  • Hmmm, he's demanding and non-compromising.
  • Okay, I'm starting to see what's wrong. Yikes.
  • He's taking advantage of his career and privilege by threatening her, her family and the neighbourhood.
  • Good that her husband helped her.
  • What?! You're calling her at all times, threatening them by mentioning your lawyer friends, and making demands instead of trying to negotiate. As a lawyer, no matter what your style or technique is if you make demands, you should be open to negotiating. Have your negotiables and non-negotiables and talk when you're less angry.
  • They're not wrong that not everyone is Christian so not everyone would be able to attend or appreciate it, he could consider scaling down or taking it to a space that's okay to do so. Yes, they planned to utilize the space for bigger parties and he asked certain questions before buying the house but he's gotten to learn that not everyone might be okay with that. So, it's either he tries to keep the peace and compromise (that way everyone is at least satisfied) or nonchalantly avoids all this to throw the party still.
  • Is this a gated community?
  • I think they're just angry that they were rejected the opportunity more than the words in the letter or anything.
  • How did she create the problem?
  • Oh wow, she resigned. I guess she got out of the Kitchen then, good for her.
  • What did they write about his faith? He just said some people are anti-Christ which was changed to Non-Christian. Did I miss something? Or was it not shown?
  • Honestly, it is entitled and disappointing to be throwing around to new people that you can sue them. How do you expect anyone to like you if you're abusing your power by threatening them and stating your power so often? Yes, the letter had that they could be entangled in strenuous litigation but that's just true.
  • Hahahaha, the Idaho Bar lady on the phone confirmed that he was a lawyer but her response as it's repeated seems full of experience and possible tiredness knowing Jeremy.
  • They're all wondering what kind of person he is, haha.
  • They told you so many times they didn't want it. You didn't tell them you were putting up your lights (in September) and possibly still going on with it, then they didn't repeat that they didn't want it done.
  • "Offensive to the senses" was bad though.
  • His home is fully decorated, hahaha.
  • He told them but he could have called a meeting to talk. Some people don't like him but some people are open-minded.
  • Well, let's see how this goes.
  • I have not watched The Office but I've seen Michael Scott clips and he reminds me of him, especially with this style of filming.
  • Exactly, as he said, try to work things out.
  • Bullying is…well, alright.
  • "Being an Attorney was a way to gain power." This explains why he tells everyone. To appear more powerful despite the threatening aspect.
  • Hahaha good God, this man!
  • "Most likely to see Satan" is crazy.
  • If he was willing to sit and talk with them he could understand more and they could understand him more but oh well.
  • Ha! Her husband's name is Jeremy too
  • Oh, he's even a Pastor.
  • "Protector of Christmas" is wow…just wow. They're not against Christmas or God but the size of the event and it's possible negatives. (Huge lights, the time it may end etc.)
  • They need mediation because these suing threats are not working.
  • I'm done with this. I don't know, I don't have the energy to continue. It feels dragged on and it's starting to annoy me.

A Pesar de Todo//Despite Everything(2019)

  • Four sisters (Sara, Claudia, Sofia, and Lucia) gather for their mother's burial and for the will reading. However, they get led on an adventure to figure out their individual roots. They are told that the father they have known is none of theirs. They have to figure out their real dads as well as bond with them in order to get their inheritance.
  • Yikes, their dad is not doing well.
  • They all have different personalities and aesthetics which is possible in reality but leans into their different roots in the movie.
  • Wow, their dad shaded her (Sara). He said that she abandoned everything for a country where there are hamburgers and red bathing suits. She said that she was chasing a dream but he asked her what good a dream is when you are lonely.
  • Lmaoooo, the fathers all talk about Carmen fondly.
  • Their father, Pedro knew about Carmen's indiscretions (the other people). He wanted to attack them for daring to show their faces at the funeral. He also said that she fell out of love and abandoned him a long time ago. I feel bad for Pedro.
  • Claudia really ran away from her father.
  • Aww, but she made things right the next day.
  • The girls have shocking revelations about their fathers and bond with them, some more easily than others.
  • The girls also build their relationships during this quest for their fathers. They bonded over the peace pipe, music, alcohol, dancing, and discussions. They found the importance of love, family, and individuality.
  • Sara and Alejandro get married with her sisters and their dads present.
  • They are one big blended family now.

Menteur//Compulsive Liar (2019)

  • Hahaha, love the opening. It's unnecessarily dramatic and I love it.
  • "The Mozart of bullshit" is eloquent hahaha.
  • His parents look lovely.
  • I could feel the pain of the people who had to interact with Simon.
  • Ah, his mother knows he's a liar. His dad got excited for a second too before he remembered.
  • Dear God, Chloe! She did say she embraces her emotions now.
  • Literally the sweetest parents! This man.
  • Lmaooo, his brother's just going along with things.
  • Oh great, an intervention! I like that Dominic's here haha.
  • This is sweet actually and it's extremely necessary.
  • Huh, one was true at least.
  • "We should have", hahahaha.
  • Poor Phil.
  • He's in denial? Now he's lying to himself, ha.
  • What was that?
  • Good for you Stephen.
  • Oh wow. The guys weren't lying, hahaha.
  • I love this already.
  • Hahahaha.
  • He ate the dancing up.
  • Hahahaha
  • Hahaha, I like that they hate him now.
  • Lmaooo, this is one heck of a lesson.
  • No way Phil dies?! Nooooo, he's so sweet.
  • Yayyy.
  • Aww, they're back! Yay.
  • Oh, Phil.
  • The CGI of their dad shocked me. I don't know what I expected but it wasn't that.
  • Yikes, poor Phil.
  • Yay, it's working.
  • At least he told her.
  • Hahahaha.
  • They killed the Prime Minister?
  • I can't, what? Bwahahahaha.
  • Poor Steven.
  • Hahahahaha.
  • "Kill the Queen"?
  • Awww, that was lovely. Good for him. Little Simon's adorable.
  • Genuinely expected a cameo from Justin (Trudeau) for some reason.
  • Hahahaha. They brought back, "The Mozart of Bullshit."
  • Lmaooo, some Canadian ideals make their way.
  • Good move.
  • Oh wow, I thought she might actually have a crush on him or remember everything but apparently not.
  • Yay, love this for him.
  • Bwahahaha, that changed really quickly.
  • Not "narcissist", hahahaha.
  • Aww, we love Phil.
  • Yayyyy.
  • Hahahaha.
  • Oh, wow.
  • Awwww.
  • Haha. Good for him. Good for them.
  • Haha, the guys are back!
  • Makes sense, haha. I was surprised that Virginie said all those things earlier.
  • Poor Phil. He went from one extreme liar he loves to another.

The invention of lying (2009)

  • Hahaha, love it already.
  • I've never seen Ricky in anything so I'm interested to see how this goes. From what I know though, dry and witty honesty is definitely his lane.
  • Ha, imagine the world being so unfiltered. Crazy. Some people are like that though.
  • Their interactions are hilarious and pure (shocking but refreshing).
  • Haha, I like the Coke ad.
  • Ha! The Pepsi one was funny.
  • Wow, people are going through a lot. It's funny, you don't realize all the emotions people are experiencing or the situations they're going through until it's voiced out like this.
  • Oh, he's a screenwriter.
  • Lmaooo, Tina Fey is perfect for this.
  • Oof, this is not…hmm.
  • Good God, the elderly home was awful.
  • Telling his mum he's alone with no prospects reminds me of the lines from Little Women that end with, "I'm already a burden to my parents."
  • Haha, good for him?
  • Haha, they really just adjust to anything he says. It's like a re-wiring.
  • Hahaha, she's such a trooper.
  • Dear God, at least he's an honest racist.
  • Ahhh, Edward Norton! Hahahaha.
  • Hmmmm, good for him.
  • Oh Frank, hope he gets better.
  • Aw, he helped that's nice. He lied to do it but he saved Frank.
  • Aw. After helping himself, he helps others and they're smiling more.
  • Sure, there's a manipulative aspect but it's for good reasons. Plus that often goes with lying.
  • It's always weird to me that people say "cheers" kind of like saying, "great" or "have a good one".
  • Wait, wouldn't they be able to smell the coffee on the papers?
  • Hahahaha, I can't.
  • They ate it all up.
  • The man his dad was robbing offered him a cup of tea. How considerate, hahaha.
  • Wow, that stings, honest but still stings.
  • Ha! Of course Jason Bateman's in this, hahaha.
  • He did not just say that, hahaha.
  • Aw, poor Martha. How would he be able to save her?
  • Aw, this is beautiful.
  • Poor Mark.
  • Lmaoo, they were so engrossed in the story.
  • Oh, she came here?
  • Aw, that's lovely.
  • Hahaha, he is famous now though.
  • Hahahaha.
  • This is amazing.
  • Ahhh, like the two tablets of the Ten Commandments??!! Hahaha, and he's like they're Jesus so to speak. A saviour spreading peace while instilling hope in the world and humanity.
  • Hahahaha.
  • I know Ricky Gervais doesn't believe in God, so this is interesting.
  • How does he know all this?
  • Not free Ice cream. He threw that in for fun.
  • Hm. Shows that they are grey areas and some things can't be determined.
  • Ha, "the bad place."
  • I CANNOT.
  • The scene allows you to understand the balance of God and that essentially, life tests you.
  • Huh, he had a good answer for her.
  • This is the most 2000's movie song, hahaha.
  • He got the mansion! (RIP to his mum)
  • Well, things are going well for him.
  • He's still lying to her?
  • Huh? Love this for them.
  • Oh, wait.
  • She does know that she contributes to the genetic code, right? So the kids wouldn't only be from him, plus, there's absolutely no guarantee that they would have does features.
  • Huh, she loves him.
  • Oh, he was going to lie. I'm surprised he didn't.
  • If he did, he knew the relationship wouldn't be genuine which is pitiful and horrid.
  • Lmaooo, he can't even speak properly.
  • Huh, he just created the sacredness of saving sexual intercourse for marriage.
  • Hahahaha, he wants to take it back.
  • Socks! Haha.
  • Oh my God! Simon Asher from Quantico!! Awwwww.
  • Brad is horrid, conceited and intolerable but Mark had warned her that he was the worst.
  • Nah, he's a committed hater. You're obsessed with Mark, sir!
  • Huh, things go back to normal but now it's focused on the mansions in the afterlife.
  • Even the Pepsi ad changed.
  • Everyone's just waiting to die to attain their eternal happiness and mansions, so they're not making any effort anymore.
  • "Man in the sky forbid", hahahaha.
  • Hahaha. Now they're just shoving the references in our faces.
  • Mark has long brown hair, a beard, sandals, and a white tunic similar to the portrayed appearance of Jesus.
  • Also, the people had faith in him without seeing the man in the sky.
  • Ahh! They even have the moment of him reading the rules from the man in the sky (on the pizza boxes) by the altar.
  • I'm half-shocked that they didn't bow at him or something when he got in. They have portrayed him with such reverence, that I didn't know how far it would go.
  • Oh wow, that's a bummer.
  • I'm surprised she's not as shocked about lying as I expected.
  • They end up together and he's still the only one who can lie apart from their son. That was one of the genetics that passed on, hahahaha. They're happy though.
  • I kind of wish we saw Brad's reaction to her leaving him but I guess the point is to focus on his happiness.
