Bigger or Closer

A not-so-subtle cry for help

We've all been faced with challenging decisions in life. What to have for lunch, whether to go commando or not, how many Krispy Kreme donuts to eat. These decisions can, at times, be daunting. And today I was plagued with a decision of my own.

You see, I currently have a 45" LG television that I bought from OfferUp for $50. You know, something temporary until I'm ready to get the TV I want. When I took it out of the car the day I bought it, though, I could hear things inside falling. I chalked it up to tiny debris or coins that had somehow gotten lost inside, but nothing more. After turning on the TV to watch it, however, I noticed small circles of light behind the screen that interfered with the picture.

I wasn't sure what the exact issue was and since I have only ever used Samsung products—and this was the first LG TV I'd ever owned—I decided to Google it. According to the information I found Google, this was a common problem with LG TVs. There are small transparent disks all over the inside of the TV which help with the backlighting—or something like that. It's really technical, okay. But, ultimately, a few of these disks had somehow become loosened and had fallen off.

I found a YouTube video where a young man explained how to take the TV apart and glue these disks back in place to resolve the issue. So, I watched the video and followed his instructions to the letter until I had successfully glued all the disks back into place and then reassembled the TV. Although the picture is much better—depending on what I'm watching—the light from these disks can still be visible. This helped me conclude that some of the disks I reattached probably weren't secured properly. Either that or this problem is not one I'll be able to fix without spending money I'd prefer to spend on a new TV that better fits my needs.

Gorilla Glue happened to be the adhesive I chose to use so we all know those disks are stuck at least for the next sixty-five million years. As such, I've been in the market for a new TV but I fight with myself for the simple fact that I'm reminded that I could merely move the TV I currently have a bit closer to the sofa so I can see the images more clearly rather than getting something bigger and more efficient.

The thing is, aside from the disks casting small circles behind the screen, the TV is just too small. Now, I could bring it a little closer and it would be fine but then it would be in the middle of my living room floor. My other option would be to get a bigger TV. I've already decided on this awesome 65" Samsung at Best Buy which is not only incredibly affordable but is also big enough for me to see from my sofa without being too big that it's obnoxious.

It's highly possible that my farsightedness is playing a part in this scenario as well since I've recently found myself squinting when there are words on the screen in order to make the blur subside a bit. There are several factors at play here and, ultimately, I'm leaning toward getting a larger TV because it will remedy several things at once. Then, I can move the smaller TV to my other room and use it for monitoring my home security.

So, the question is should I move the TV I have closer to the sofa (maybe rearrange the living room setup) or should I get a larger TV?
