Back in Heels: "The Devil Wears Prada 2" Struts New Fashion with a Familiar Spark
"The Devil Wears Prada 2" has brought audiences back to the cinema.

It’s back to Runway, so strut your style.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 returns to theaters after twenty years. Andy Sachs reunites with Miranda Priestly when Runway magazine is in a bind. As Miranda struggles for power, Andy discovers secrets that help keep the business from declining.
I never saw the first Devil Wears Prada in theaters, but experiencing the sequel with several fans who dressed up was amazing. This movie is iconic for its acting talents and cultural impact on the fashion industry. The sequel has an invigorating message on careers, though the story wasn’t finished on whose shoes it was walking in.
Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt reprise their iconic roles like they never stepped out of them. These four actors are incredibly talented, thriving in successful careers. The actors dominate the screen with passion, electric flair, or trademark styles.
Let’s take a moment to praise Anne Hathaway’s career. Hathaway is a driven actress and has become so versatile in her roles. In her return as Andy Sachs, Hathaway brings significant growth. She is more mature, listens to others' ideas, and is passionate about her job. Andy will stop at nothing to achieve any difficult endeavor.
Meryl Streep is back as Miranda Priestly. It was so good to see her back in this role. While Miranda delivers her signature offhand stinger remarks, Miranda bounces between her domineering personality and also an open-door woman, which she never was. Then again, we don’t always stay the same.
I was looking forward to Emily Blunt returning as Emily. Emily was the most interesting character and has achieved her own personal endeavors since the last movie. Blunt’s quick one-liners got everyone laughing in the theater. Emily is featured heavily in the trailers, but has a smaller role in the film. Her part could have been expanded, especially with her arc.
The same for Stanley Tucci. He doesn’t feel like he has much to do other than give his snide remarks or play the conscience.
New credits include Kenneth Branagh, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Tracie Thomas, Tibor Feldman, Simone Ashley, Caleb Hearon, and Helen J. Shen. The film includes several more supporting roles with actors who are starting to grow into their careers. An iconic singer has a cameo.
David Frankel and Alina Brosh McKenna return as director and screenwriter of the film. Frankel’s direction is sharp to the cast, but it’s the story that felt like it was still choosing which shoes to wear. Other than trying to save Runway, the film fell flat in the middle. It wasted scenarios and characters that would have benefited the plot.
Everything felt too sugarcoated, which was not an ingredient in the first film. No, The Devil Wears Prada was a gritty film where characters had to work hard without receiving rewards.
The positive message about careers has not diminished. That was my favorite part about this film. The Devil Wears Prada is about careers, sticking your foot in the door, and continuing to grow. I had this big smile on my face at seeing Andy and Emily’s growth over the last two decades.
Keep experimenting in your career. You never know what opportunities you’re given if you expand your ideas and skills. This movie made me realize how far I have come in my career as a journalist in the past decade, and it’s still growing. I cannot wait for the next steps. And this movie is right - keep journalism alive.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 has brought audiences back to the cinema. I love being in a crowded movie theater. Experience the glamour, gorgeous locations, and funny dialogue while it’s still in theaters.
