Music. Music brings people together. Never let go of your passion.

August Rush is a 2007 film about a young orphan who loves music. Setting out on a journey, little does he know that his birth parents are struggling with their own lives, feeling holes whenever they hear music. Discovering their gift, they manage to find their hearts in music.

One of the best parts about re-watching movies is that you get a new and different sense of what the film is all about in contrast to the first time. I am so thankful that I came upon the film August Rush again. August Rush is a beautiful journey about finding one’s passion.

Freddie Highmore delivered a powerful performance as a young orphan boy who has never lost hope to one day find his parents. His passion for music is inspiring. August looks at the world differently than from everyone else, hearing the music, even with every step he takes. We discover our passions at any age. Highmore worked inclusively on creating music making his incredulous performance stand out.

Each character is on a mission to find something that they lost. Keri Russell and Jonathan Rhys Meyers were great in their performances. Due to life, they had to take their own paths. Now, they are destined to meet again. Russell was fantastic, but I was most impressed with Meyers. I have not seen him in movies. Based off on his acting abilities, I love how he guided himself to change his ways. Change is important.

I completely forgot that Robin Williams was in this film until coming across it again. When his name flashed on the screen, I was so excited! Get ready, Robin Williams fans, as the great actor plays a completely different character from what he formally played as the conniving ‘Wizard’. August is put to the test between right and wrong. Williams had a different interaction with each character, which is important, testing August on who he should trust.

August Rush has a number of fantastic performers that stood out. For all Victorious lovers out there, here is your chance to see a young Leon Thomas III! Terrence Howard, William Sadler, Marion Seldes, Mykelti Williamson, Jamia Simone Nash, Michael Drayer, and Aaron Staton grasped their inner passions creating compelling performances.

August Rush is reminiscent of the story of Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. One of the best parts about storytelling is that we can create based on other works of inspiration. New story angles created a different meaning, but a similar thought-provoking adventure.

The sound mixing is incredible. My favorite scene was when August was walking in the town of New York and all sorts of little noises like cars honking, rattling, splashing in puddles made a rhythmic noise. This film beautifully displays people’s passions.

Kirsten Sheridan’s direction brought out a beautiful story, memorable talents, and a film for people to remind themselves of the importance of your passion. She worked very well with the story, connecting to people who yearn to find their own passions. Writing has always been one of my greatest passions. After watching this movie, I cherish it all the more.

Towards the end of August Rush, I felt that there was filler that didn’t need to be in the film. Matters could have been solved earlier instead of dragging out the movie longer for character development in which we have already seen.

I would recommend August Rush to any music lover. This movie is a beautiful and inspiring experience. It is one of those feel-good movies that makes you walk away feeling grateful for what you have.
