Alexa might be keeping a secret from Jacob on Greenleaf

Greenleaf fans were give a lot to ponder on the premiere episode of the fifth and final season of the hit series. In addition to drama that is going on between the members of the Bishop's family, a possible new wrinkle has been added. Alexa Campbell returned on Tuesday night to the episode titled "The first day." She was briefly on the first season of the show as a secretary to the Bishop. She was having an affair with Jacob and left Calvary to work for Triumph ministries shortly after an encounter between herself and Jacob. The duo had sex inside of an office in the church, as the morning worship service was about to start.

The season 5 premiere of the hit OWN series, aired on Tuesday, June 23. After a 4 year hiatus, without anyone uttering her name, Alexa was back. She was living in a modest apartment and had a biracial daughter who looked to be about 3 years old. Jacob requested to see her then showed up at her door asking questions about his uncle Mac's business dealings. During their conversation, he took note of the child and asked Ms. Campbell if the little girl were his daughter. She replied by saying that if the baby had been Jacob's she would not have kept it. It's possible that Ms. Campbell is telling the truth, but there is probably more to this story.

Alexa may have been brought back into the storyline just to tie up the loose ends regarding Mac. After complaining about his coming to see her after all these years, she did tell Jacob where his uncle had information in a storage unit. This could have been the end of it but Ms. Campbell's daughter adds another layer to the situation. When Jacob asked Alexa if she were married she held up her hand and said very curtly, "You don't see a ring do you?" She could have answered her ex-lover's questions and sent him on his way, never to see him again. The appearance of her daughter, however, may prevent that from happening.

The little girl obviously has a black father and she is just the right age to be Jacob's child. Since he asked, and Alexa said no, Minister Greenleaf may put it all out of his mind. The storyline could have had Alexa move on, get married, and be living quite well. Her daughter's father could have been white which would have shut down any possibility that Jacob Greenleaf is her baby daddy. Instead, she comes across as a woman scorned and tells Jacob that he cost her two jobs. Alexa's cramped living quarters indicate that she is not doing so well financially and it seems she has a chip on her shoulder.

If the little girl does belong to Carissa's spouse, it looks like the writers of Greenleaf will be utilizing a well worn out storyline. Alexa will be portrayed as the bitter mistress who did not want any money from her baby daddy or his rich family. She has struggled all on her own for three years to provide as best she can for her child and did not want Jacob to ever know the truth. This plot has played out many times over the decades on television and in film. The question now is what happens next. Jacob could make an excuse to go back to Alexa's place and take an object to have a DNA test done. If the child is his he will offer financial assistance but Alexa may not want it. Now that he and Carissa are getting divorced Jacob could possibly begin to get to know the daughter he has been unaware of.

If indeed the little girl has Greenleaf blood, how will the Bishop and Lady Mae respond? Will they welcome a new grandchild with open arms, or reject the child because of who her mother is? In time, by the season show's final episode, he and Alexa may get back together. All of this is projecture and there may be another reason Kristen Erickson was brought back to the show. It could be that Greenleaf will have a number of former characters return because season 5 will be the end of the series. Jacob and his wife could repair their union and Alexa never be seen again. OWN has always been secretive and does not reveal spoilers as other drama series do. Not one of the actors leaked the fact that season 5 had been taped and was ready to air. There is nothing on the Internet at this point to indicate whether Kristen Erickson will be in that one episode or if she will be around for the entire season, so stay tuned.
