I’m going on a trip with Goofy this weekend. I wonder what crazy things will happen.

Heading out on a road trip in 1995, A Goofy Movie is about Goofy longing to spend time with his son, Max. The instant summer arrives, Max wants to impress Roxanne, the girl of his dreams. Goofy, however, wants to take his son on a camping trip. A boatload of crazy adventures follows on this memorable trip.

I have always had a soft spot for A Goofy Movie. Viewing it as an adult I have gained more love for the film. The relationship between a father and son is given the highest recognition in this heartwarming adventure.

Goofy and Max don’t see eye to eye. But they do love each other. Because Max is in a hurry to grow up, Goofy fears that he won’t be able to connect with him. The film does not shy away from exhibiting their arguments. Going on this adventure helps them understand each other.

If anything, A Goofy Movie presents how Goofy is an amazing father to Max. There is more to Goofy than one thinks. Even the writers wanted to demonstrate that side of him to the audience. Goofy’s emotional journey was the high focus of the film.

I am impressed with how well Bill Farmer and Jason Mardsen express emotion in their performances. They truly connected with their characters, especially Mardsen. Having a difficult time as a teenager, Max wants to be treated like everyone else. In a rarity, Famer and Mardsen actually performed together while recording.

The entire voice cast does an outstanding job delivering lines and songs. Voice talents include Jim Cummings, Kellie Martin, Rob Paulson, Wallace Shawn, Jenna von Oy, and many others. It also contains the final credit to Disney legend, Pat Buttram.

A Goofy Movie contains an assortment of characters. Watch carefully in the background because a couple of surprise characters appear. I always get a kick out of Bigfoot dancing in the background during one scene.

As a kid, I really liked the character, Roxanne. But after my most recent viewing, I’m not sure what it is that I like about her. We don’t know anything about Roxanne. Writers missed an opportunity to give her a character. Based on her personality, Roxanne is nice, but she is not patient, immediately judging Max about having to reschedule plans.

Animators did an excellent job with the film, color textures, and even working in small moments of affection between Goofy and Max. For example, in a scene where they are arguing during a dramatic moment, the duo makes efforts to help each other to safety. These subtle moments say so much.

The use of colors was examined very well. For one pivotal scene animators toned the screen in red coloring. Animated movies are a process. The waterfall scene is one of the most proclaimed scenes detailing the cool effects of water rapids.

A Goofy Movie contains a catchy soundtrack. To me, I feel like the film could have gone without songs because they were distracting from the main story. Some song numbers include, ‘After Today,’ ‘On the Open Road’, ‘Nobody Else but You’, and a soundtrack filled with terrific melodies.

A Goofy Movie is an excellent example of the relationship between a father and a son. No relationship is ever perfect. But fathers and sons need to spend time together. Before you know it, we’re grown up in the blink of an eye.

I smiled the entire time watching A Goofy Movie. I recommend that you find A Goofy Movie and watch it.
