A Frame-by-Frame Analysis of the Official 'Avengers: Endgame' Trailer

Whatever it takes...

Yesterday, out of the blue, a new trailer was dropped for Marvel's upcoming film, Avengers: Endgame. This movie will be a sequel to Avengers: Infinity War and will follow the lives of the surviving Avengers following the decimation at the end of Infinity War.

So, I decided to go through the trailer frame-by-frame and see what information I could give you and hopefully, I'll be able to predict what we might be able to see in the film.

Here we go!

We begin with archival footage from the original Iron Man. Tony Stark narrates, reflecting on how it felt like so long ago when he became Iron Man.

The footage is all black and white, but you may notice above that the only color on screen is from the red wires. We see more footage, and similarly, the footage is black and white except for the color red.

I believe that the use of red in this trailer is used to show the blood shed at the end of Infinity War, and the amount of people who died on that day.

We see here that Tony Stark is still trapped in space, and from what we learned from the first teaser trailer, Tony is sending a message to Pepper from his Iron Man helmet.

Also, from his tone and what he's saying, we know that Tony is a very different man from who he was at the beginning of the first Iron Man. This is him at his lowest point. He has lost all hope and from the sound of it, he is fully expecting to die alone on his ship.

Here, we have footage from Captain America: The First Avenger. And we have a voice saying, "The world has changed. None of us can go back. All we can do is our best. And sometimes the best we can do is to start over."

You may recognize that this is Peggy's voice, and it's what Peggy told Steve in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

After we see the footage from The First Avenger, we see a new shot of Steve Rogers now. I believe this is done to show how far everyone has come from many years earlier.

Tony is more depressed and less self-centered, and Steve is more mature, wise, and experienced than the kid from Brooklyn in the 1940s who he used to be.

Here, we have a scene of Clint Barton, who was absent from Infinity War, teaching his daughter how to shoot a bow and arrow. From what we saw in Avengers: Age of Ultron, this looks like it's near his house.

Clint's daughter also looks a few years older than she was in Ultron. I assume that in this scene, Clint is having a peaceful moment with his daughter right before the decimation happened. Clint was spared, but his daughter disintegrated right in front of him, leading us to...

Here, we see Clint, and this must be a while after the "bow and arrow" scene. Clint is no longer Hawkeye in this movie, and he is instead a darker version of himself: Ronin.

Clint's hair is different and he is in an Asian country in dark clothing. He is also looking at Natasha in this shot.

In this shot, they hold hands, showing their friendship and remembrance of their past together.

From what I've seen, I believe that this is what will happen: following the decimation, the Avengers must gather their forces to defeat Thanos. Natasha eventually tracks Ronin down to an Asian country, where he has descended into darker places than he ever has.

And here, we see archival footage of Thor from Thor and Infinity War. I think Thor has shown the most growth of any of the heroes. He changes a lot from movie to movie.

He was cocky and self-centered in the original Thor, funny in Thor: Ragnarok, and I think in Endgame, Thor will be very broken and depressed, as he feels responsible for the decimation. Had he killed Thanos by "aim[ing] for the head," the decimation could have been avoided.

In Infinity War, we saw that Natasha had dyed her hair blonde. In this shot, we can see that her hair is slowly becoming red again, showing that this scene will take place at least a couple of weeks after the end of Infinity War.

Here, Steve says, "I keep telling everybody they should move on. Some do. But not us."

In this shot, we see Scott Lang. The last time we saw him was in the end credits of Ant-Man and the Wasp, when he found himself trapped in the Quantum Realm after Hope, Hank, and Janet disintegrated.

This scene must take place right after he found a way to escape the Quantum Realm and is now looking around Earth, realizing what has happened when he was gone. And though the Ant-Man movies are very funny, I wouldn't mind seeing Ant-Man be a more serious character in this movie.

And here, we have confirmation that Clint Barton will indeed be back and fighting alongside the remaining Avengers in this movie. We see him running from a large amount of fire in this shot in an action scene.

This shot has Rocket and War Machine gearing up, ready to fight who I assume will be Thanos's army and I just love the little grin on Rocket's face as he's about to fight, because you KNOW he's gonna enjoy this.

Nebula is back and she is ready to kick some ass!

Behind her, you can see a huge wreck, including what looks like a downed aircraft. This is likely gonna be in the middle of a large, violent battle, and probably the same one as the one Rocket and War Machine were getting ready to fight in.

And we have one of our final action shots of the trailer, where we see Captain America pushing really hard against something. This costume does not look much like his Nomad uniform from Infinity War, and looks more like his suit from Winter Soldier.

This shot has Ant-Man using a pencil as a pole-vault in the middle of a battle. And I don't know why there would be a pencil in a battlefield, so maybe they're fighting in a space that was once an office or something.

And the trailer closes with some epic shots of the remaining Avengers walking together in their headquarters to battle. There are a few things to draw from this. First off, they're wearing white suits with the Avengers logo.

Some have theorized that they're wearing white suits to time travel or to enter the Quantum Realm. These theories may be correct, as we see War Machine's suit has been modified to look like his battle armor.

In addition, given that we see Tony and Nebula walking with the rest of the Avengers below, that means they did not die after being stranded on that spaceship. They were able to make it back to Earth.

Who saved them? I believe that Pepper Potts will, under her new superhero guise, Rescue. And also, given that Tony and Steve are working together again, it seems as if tensions between them have died down since the decimation and the events of Captain America: Civil War.

Notably absent from this group of walking heroes is Rocket, Thor, and Captain Marvel, so if they're not with these heroes, I assume they'll be on another planet in a different battle.

Now, all of us non-sexists who didn't boycott Captain Marvel were able to get treated to a little sneak peek of Avengers: Endgame during the middle of the credits.

The scene had Captain Marvel arriving at the Avengers headquarters and meeting the other Avengers. This scene likely takes place right after, as Thor meets Carol Danvers.

After Thor summons Jarnbjorn right next to Carol as she doesn't flinch, he goes, "I like this one."

I ship it! I think they would go great together. I'm sorry. But I fully expect the two of them to begin getting romantically involved at the end of this movie.

What's another prediction? Cap's dead.

Now, why do I think Captain America is gonna die in this movie? Well, the first piece of evidence is the fact that Chris Evans will be stepping down from the role of Steve Rogers after this movie.

And also, here is the new poster for Avengers: Endgame.

You can see here that Captain America is the main focus of the trailer. He is front and center.

Now, many of the actors' contracts expire after Endgame, including Downey Jr., Evans, and Hemsworth.

If you'll notice, it's THEIR characters who are prominently featured on the poster.

Cap may be front and center, but Stark and Thor are bigger than the others on this poster.

This leads me to believe that this movie will have a focus on them, and that at least one of them will die at the end of Endgame.

But that's just what I think will happen.

It's also gonna be nice to see the Avengers actually doing some avenging. Because it all goes back to what Tony Stark said in the original Avengers.

In Infinity War, the Avengers couldn't protect the Earth from the decimation. And that's why in this film, they are gonna avenge it. And I think this is gonna be the Marvel movie we've all been waiting for.

Personally, I cannot wait to see Endgame, and I'm gonna try to see it early if I can. Thanks for reading.
