Ryan Paevey was born Ryan Jacob Paevey-Vlieger in Torrance, California on September 24, 1984. His parents are Les Vlieger and Linda Paevey. His last name is his mother's maiden name. It is not a stage name because his younger sister's name is Kaitlyn Paevey.

Before Ryan settled into modeling and acting, he worked with his father in the construction business. He also spent some time bartending for a living.
