6 Relatable Disney Characters Who Messed Up Too

Being a made-up character doesn't mean you're perfect

I love seeing movie characters that do the same stupid things I would do. Being able to relate to their story makes the movie a different kind of entertaining, and it's fun to see how the characters deal with their mess-ups. Here are six Disney characters who messed up, and had to deal with the difficult situations they got themselves into. (Spoiler alert!)

Megara - Hercules (1997)

Who hasn't made a stupid decision when it comes to love and dating? I've definitely made my fair share of them, and it's nice to see characters that deal with the same issues. Meg sold her soul to Hades to save the life of her boyfriend at the time, only to later have him leave her for another woman. This is quite the sad backstory, as she is now trapped and has to serve Hades, forced to obey his malicious plans. As he's plotting to overturn Zeus and Mount Olympus, he needs to get Hercules out of the picture. To do this, Meg is sent out to spy on him, and eventually she develops feelings for him. Her heart hasn't learned from past mistakes, and yet again, she finds herself in a situation where she gives a huge sacrifice for a man.

Kuzco - The Emperor's New Groove (2000)

Kuzco had everything he wanted. He didn't have to lift a finger, he had a pampered and easy life, with his servants doing absolutely everything for him. But when his greed got too much, he lost everything, including his human form. I think many of us can relate to not appreciating or realising the value of what we have, and instead craving more. His mistake led to a crazy adventure filled with dangerous situations. He had a long journey of discovering himself and finding the nicer and more caring sides of him. Sometimes life has to teach you a lesson for you to wake up from a delusion, and that's exactly what happened to Kuzco.

Aladdin - Aladdin (1992)

Have you ever pretended to be something that you're not? Probably not to Aladdin's extent, though. After falling in love with Jasmine, he lied his way into a relationship with her by pretending to be a prince. Now, that's pretty tricky to get out of, especially as his relationship is illegal according to the law. He can't marry Jasmine without being a prince, and he has already told her that he is one. He doesn't have any more wishes left, and he has run out of lies. On top of this, the deceitful royal vizier Jafar is doing what he can to get rid of Aladdin to become sultan himself. The fact that his royal title is a lie is an excellent opportunity for Jafar to try and get between them. Aladdin has to face multiple dangerous situations, and if this movie can teach us anything, it definitely is that you should never lie about who you are.

Pinocchio - Pinocchio (1940)

Have you ever made a decision based on naivety? The morning after being turned into a real boy, Pinocchio leaves for his first day of school. As he has no life experience at all, he doesn't know how to read a situation, nor does he know that not everyone has good intentions. When encountering Honest John, Pinocchio fails to pick up on his bad vibes. Honest John sells him this grand idea of a glamorous actor's life, and Pinocchio believes him, and goes off to work for Stromboli. The showman doesn't treat him very nicely, and Pinocchio eventually manages to escape. But, as I think unfortunately many of us can relate to, it takes more than one mess-up for Pinocchio to learn his lesson. He's tricked by Honest John once again, and this time he's in for an even worser fate. The (surprisingly scary for a Disney movie) scenes in this movie serve as a reminder to be wary about talking to strangers.

Sorcerer Mickey - Fantasia (1940)

Of course, I need to represent a lesser-known Disney movie on every list I make. We might all have been tempted to try something we knew we weren't allowed to do, or to do something we didn't quite have the skills for. In The Sorcerer's Apprentice from Fantasia, Mickey isn't overly excited when the mighty Yen Sid (let's appreciate that name for a second) orders him to fill a well with water instead of letting him practice magic. When Yen Sid goes to bed, Mickey uses his sorcerer's hat to give life to a broom and give it arms, so that it can fetch the water instead of him. Mickey falls asleep, and the broom keeps filling up the pool with water. He wakes up as it overflows, and as he doesn't know how to stop the broom, he chops it up with an axe. The broken pieces create a hoard of brooms, and the whole room is flooded. Yen Sid isn't happy upon discovering what Mickey has done, and safe to say, he's ruined his magic privileges for a while. Sometimes it's hard to resist doing things you know you shouldn't, but it's definitely better to leave it.

Sulley - Monster's Inc (2001)

I think I'm right in assuming everyone's made a mistake at work at some point. Hopefully it didn't threaten your entire city's system and risk the safety of everyone living there. When Sulley went back onto the scare floor to file Mike's paperwork for him, there was a door left at one of the stations. As he checked if someone was still in there, Sulley unknowingly let out a child. As children are said to be extremely dangerous and potentially deadly if touched, he panics, and he and Mike try all they can to slip the kid back into the human world unnoticed. Of course, it's not as easy as that, and it sends them on a crazy journey that changes their lives forever. Desperately trying to fix a mistake is one thing, but having the whole city after you, while you're dealing with a "deadly" creature? No thanks.

Those were six Disney characters that messed up badly, in ways that can be relatable even for us regular humans. At least it shows us that as long as you don't stop trying, we can find solutions for most things. Which story do you relate to the most?
