6 Horror/Suspense Webtoons I Highly Recommend

Intro

If you're like me, you're always on the prowl for a new webtoon that will keep you up late at night. A Webtoon that crawls under your skin. A webtoon that keeps you looking over your shoulder whenever you're alone.

This list is full of Webtoons that will leave you feeling just that. Some are seeped in reality, while others take a science fiction monster-esque turn. This list contians ongoing as well as completed webtoons. So weather you want to fly through the entire series in a night (or two) or you want to be excited waiting for the next chapter to upload, there's bound to be a Webtoon here for you.

Sweet Home

Hyun has just moved into a new apartment complex, and before he gets the chance to know any of his neighbors, things begin to become weird. The innternet and cell service is broken and people are randomly attacking each other. Hyun has to try and survive as monsters begin to appear with super human strength and abilities. Along the way we meet many characters of varrying personalities.

Altogether it creates a thrilling, nail biting story that will keep you reading late into the night.

Home Sick

Rayne wakes up on the roof of a building with no memory other than her name. She quickly runs into Samael, a delinquent. He gives her the bad news- she's been unconsious for about 6 months and the world has gone to crap. There's canibalistic Monsters who can morph into familiar faces. Their only way to survive is to team up- but what is this shadow that keeps following Rayne? And why did it save her?

This webcomic has an astonishing color palette that heightens the atmosphere of an apocolyptic world. The storytelling does great in giving it's characters individuality and foreshadowing things to come.

Micro HUNTER

It's a normal day in Korea for Baekyun, whose on his way to the grocery store. Normal... until everyone shrinks to the size of ants and develops super powers. There's a countdown to how much time everyone has to make it to 'the light' and if they dont they're dead. But with traveling a block now taking several days, and all of the animals once seen as pets now posing imminent danger, people have no choice but to team up to try and survive. But Baekhyun not only has to make it to the light, but back to his apartment to find his little sister.

Can Baekhyun make it to his sister with his seemingly weak power? Will they make it to the light? What even is the light? And why did this happen to them?

Its Mine

A dark figure slinks through the streets, dipping between houses as a young girl walks home late at night. Is this figure there to hurt her? Kill her? Actually, as hard to believe as it may be, he is there to save her.

Yohan grew up in a room with no windows, no doors, and no way out. He was given one goal, to save Dajeong. When he's finally let out of the only room he's known his whole life, he immediately searches for Dajeong.

He stays in the shadows, quietly watching, quietly obsessing, quietly waiting to save her from an unknown evil.

ShotGun Boy

Gyuhwan is a lonely highschool boy who is relentlessly bullied. While on a field trip he is chased thorugh the woods. While hiding he chances upon a Shotgun- with just enough shells for his classmates and teacher. But fate has other plans, as his class is already under attack by alien creatures who eat brains and have super human strength.

The only thing standing between his classes annihilation is the shotgun he had grabbed with the intention of ending their lives himself.

This is the prequel to 'Sweet Home' (the first webtoon on this list) but I hightly suggest you read it AFTER sweet home! It contains some spoilers for Sweet Home, but also requires some knowledge of the monsters in sweet home in order to not get lost.

Bastard

Yes, this is by the same author as sweet home. I truly have enjoyed everything that this artist has produced and am currently reading their third work (called Shotgun Boy).

Bastard is about a boy (Jin) who is disabled. The opening scene sees him getting bullied and sets the tone for this dour story. It's not long before it's revealed that his dad is a serial killer who over the years has forced his son to help him. Jin lives a life of fear and powerlessness, until his path crosses with the new girl at his school.

This is a story much like 'Sweet Home', leaning hevily into the gore and hopelessness of the story's material, and sprinkling in small moments of hope and love thorughout. It's a great read I highly recommend anyone whose a fan of thrillers.

Phew! What a suspenseful bunch of Webtoons!

I hope you found at least one of these interesting and add it to your watchlist. I have read all of these (and continue to for the ones that are ongoing).

But if you were indecisive and I had to stress just one to read, Sweet Home would be my pick. Not only is this a webtoon, it is a printed graphic novel you can pick up at a store, and it has a live adaptation (it goes in a different direction than the webtoon but it is still interesting to watch). It deals with morality, suicidal ideation, and many other heavy topics; all while hanging the character's lives by a thread as they make their way through this monstrous world.
