The duo that brings a smile always...

Children are drawn to animated pictures and videos from a very young age, and if the plot involves a small brown mouse and a grey cat resembling a person, then hurrah! it's already a hit.

I hope a lot of you have already guessed the names. They are none other than Tom and Jerry, the best animals we had as children.

However, it is tragic that the creator, Eugene Merrill Deitch, sometimes known as Gene Deitch, died in his Prague flat on April 16, 2020. Gene brought joy to everyone's childhood with cartoons like Tom and Jerry and Popeye. His passing leaves the art and entertainment world with a void that cannot be filled.

Returning to the topic at hand, the following astounding details about Tom and Jerry that hardly anyone is aware of:

1. Tom and Jerry were formerly named Jasper and Jinx:

J n' J

Many of us are unaware that the illustrators William Hanna and Joseph Barbera gave the couple the names Jasper and Jinx when they first created the artwork. Following the debut of the experiment, a studio-wide competition was held to choose the pair's final names. The iconic names Tom and Jerry were created by an animator by the name of John Carr. He won the competition, along with a reward of $50 and a history that has continued to this day.

2. Tom- a cat-cat or a human-cat?

Walking Tom

When Tom and Jerry first started out, he utilized four legs to go around as any other cat would. After some time, it was decided to make Tom look more like a human, thus he was given two feet to walk on. The audience at the time claimed that this small work had drastically altered their viewpoint, and the cartoon quickly rose to fame in the 1800s.

3. The cartoon show went to the OSCARS:

The common thing

Did you realize that during its day, high-end Hollywood films and television programs couldn't compete with your favorite cartoon from childhood? Tom and Jerry have won seven of the thirteen Oscar nominations for best short subject cartoon. Yankee Doodle Mouse, one of the episodes, won the first Oscar in 1943, while Yohan Mouse, one of the episodes, won the seventh in 1953. One of the most astounding things about Tom and Jerry is that NASA named two spacecraft that were circling one another Tom and Jerry. This show was well-liked not only by young people but also by a significant proportion of adults and older people as well.

4. The best friends, Tom and Jerry- Yay or Nay?

Friends huh?

In the year 1975, Tom and Jerry genuinely grew close buddies! We saw them compete in sports, solve mysteries, and enjoy some good ol' fashioned bromance as they traveled the world in a unique series. The creators had decided to give them a break and create something different for a while, however, the audience was fond of their enmity more than their friendship. Fortunately, it was brief, else the story wouldn't have continued for long.

5. The tragic end of the duo:

A little bit sad, my friends! Tom and Jerry were constantly looking out for one another. But occasionally, they would end up becoming friends. However, the two of them meet a very unfortunate conclusion as they both commit suicide on a train track in the final episode of the Hanna-Barbera cartoon series, which features them.

Over the years, Tom & Jerry has helped us shape our lives in such a magnificent way that many of us still binge-watch their classic episodes to relive our happy childhood years. Those days are still kept alive by this mischievous duo to date and will be preserved by them forever.

Go Have fun watching some episodes now!
