3 Wrong and 3 Right Spider-Man: No Way Home Theories
Now that the movie has been out for a couple of months, we can look back on popular past fan theories
With the high anticipation Spider-Man: No Way Home had, many Spider-Man fans began coming up with theories. As a lot of them were impossible and weird, many of them were reasonable. Here are 3 interesting theories that were incorrect and 3 interesting theories that were correct.
**Disclaimer: this excludes the theory about Andrew and Tobey's general appearance in the movie, considering it was the most common and obvious theory of them all**
This has major spoilers.
Theories that were wrong
Hardy's Venom and Holland's Spider-Man will meet
With the end credit scene of Venom: Let Their Be Carnage, it was thought that Tom Hardy's Venom would have an interaction with Tom Holland's Spider-Man. Instead, Eddie Brock makes a small appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home's end credit scene. In this scene, he is arguing with a bartender about the existence of The Avengers and Thanos. Then, Brock disappears as he is sent back to his own universe. It is revealed that he left a little symbiote behind, but nowhere did Brock ever come into contact with Parker.
Mysterio is Still Alive
Mysterio is a mastermind when it comes to illusions created by projections. This led many fans to theorize that Mysterio faked his death. As Mysterio is a member of the Sinister Six, it was theorized he faked his death and joined his companions in the new Spider-Man film. Alas, this did not occur and if Mysertio had faked his own death, it was not showcased in the movie.
Mysterio is a master manipulator. Maybe he is still alive and is hiding and waiting for his next time to strike. Although, now that the world doesn't know who Peter Parker is, maybe he'll forget and come out of the shadows.
Miles Morales Will Make his Live-Action Debut
With the apparent collaboration between the many Spider-Men universes, many people believed that Miles Morales would be joining Peter 1, Peter 2, and Peter 3 in their villain saving challenge. However, Miles Morales did not make his live-action debut. Instead, there was a brief exchange between Andrew's Spider-Man and Jamie Foxx's Electro where Electro says "there's got to be a Black Spider-Man out there somewhere."
Theories that were Right
Charlie Cox (Daredevil) Will Make An Appearance
There were many people speculating about Charlie Cox's return as Matt Murdock because of the return of many other Spider-Man-related characters (Green Goblin, Electro, J. Jonah Jameson, etc). As Mysterio revealed Spider-Man's identity while also framing the teenager for murder, it was evident that he was going to need a really good lawyer.
Murdock's time in the movie although short, was a great way to introduce Murdock into the MCU.
Andrew's Spider-Man Saves MJ
After showing MJ falling in the trailer, fans began theorizing why that scene occurs. Many smart fans realized that it would be because Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man would save her, in reference to how he failed to save Gwen Stacy as she fell to her death in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Aunt May's Death
With that clip in the trailer of Tom Holland's Peter Parker crying amongst some rubble, fans began theorizing about the death of a character important to Peter. That led fans to guess which character would meet their untimely demise, and the ones who were correct are the ones who said it would be Aunt May.
In all the Spider-Man movies, a character close to Peter dies in order to motivate him to keep fighting. This character has been portrayed through Uncle Ben, Gwen Stacy, Harry Osborn, and Tony Stark. Although Tony Stark was a huge loss for Peter, losing Aunt May and carrying on her legacy to help everyone in need is what motivated Peter to ultimately carry on his original mission.
Summary
These are the theories that were fairly reasonable, as there is a variety of theories that range from unique to downright impossible. As seen during the slow-burn release of WandaVision, many MCU fans are quick to jump to assumptions and conclusions. During the time of WandaVision's release, many people were insistent that the comic villain Mephisto was behind everything. When Spider-Man: No Way Home came around, people were equally insistent that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were going to make an appearance. This time, and less embarrassingly, the overly insistent fans were right.
As the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness comes nearer, it'll be interesting to see how far MCU fans take their theories. With the implication that the Multiverse will bring in a plethora of characters, it is sure to have people theorizing who will make an appearance.
