Report Story

Throw Barbarian is a highly gear dependent character who utilizes the Double Throw and Throwing Mastery skills.

The Throwing Barbarian, like its Frenzy Barbarian counterpart, has excellent mobility thanks to its ability to acquire Frenzy "stacks" that increase movement speed with each successful hit. Common farm spots for this nimble melee/ranged hybrid are the Countess in the Forgotten Tower and the "Hole" dungeon in Tamo Highlands in Act 1 or Travincal in Act 3 for the council members, who can drop a plethora of good magic items. This is where the barbarian's unique Find Item skill comes in handy.

Pros and Cons of the Double Throw Barbarian

Gear

The following gear contains "Ladder" runewords, but due to their popularity, according to Blizzard, they will be unlocked in Diablo 2 Resurrected for the first time in both single-player and multiplayer (Battle.net) modes. The same goes for ladder uniques and horadric cube recipes.

  • Helm: Arreat's Visage (Unique Barbarian Helm)
  • Armor: 3 socket armor with Runeword "Treason" (Shael + Thul + Lem)
  • Weapons: 2x Glimmer Shard (Unique Flying Axe)
  • 2nd Weapon Slot (optional): 2x Render Hearts (Unique Dirk), each granting a +4 bonus to Find Item
  • Gloves: Lay on hands (set gloves)
  • Belt: Ear Chain (Unique Belt)
  • Boots: Bloodrider (Unique Boots)
  • Amulet: Mara's Kaleidoscope (Unique Amulet) or magic/rare amulet with barbarian skill bonuses
  • Ring 1: Raven Frost (Unique Ring)
  • Ring 2: Manald Heal (Unique Ring) or magic/rare/craft ring with mana siphon
  • Spells: Focus on resistances, health, attack value, barbarian skills

The Throwing Barbarian requires some special gear to play efficiently. High elemental damage, provided here by the two Glimmershard flying axes, and decent attack rating is some of the most important stats for this starter build. In addition to the bonuses on the equipment (including the "Treachery" rune word armor), the fury melee attacks in between ensuring the optimal attack speed.

In addition, high defense, life, and resistances as well as bonuses to barbarian skills (e.g. through the Arreats Visage -barbarian helmet) are important values that you should focus on. You cover any gaps in attack value and resistances with spells in the inventory. (Optional) It is recommended to also get two Heartrender long daggers for the 2nd weapon slot, each granting a +4 bonus to item search.

Mercenary

  • Type: Act 2 Desert Hireling (Defensive) on Normal difficulty with defiance aura
  • Gear: Helm of the Tal Rasha set, 3-socket (ethereal) armor with the Runeword "Treachery" (Shael + Thul + Lem), (ethereal) 5-socket polearm with the Runeword "obedience" (Hel + Ko + Thul + Eth + Fal)

The defiance aura version is recommended as it provides you with a mercenary that drastically increases your and the mercenary's defense in combination with your scream. This is important so that you can safely use your Frenzy melee attacks in between. The Tal Rasha set's "Obedience" runeword weapon and helm grant the mercenary the requisite punch and survivability needed as your tank in solo play.

Ax Toss Barbar Build Tips

  • Maintain your Battle Call, Battle Orders, and Shout buffs at all times.
  • Use Leap Attack to overcome obstacles or escape in an emergency. In addition, enemies are knocked back when landing with Leap Attack, so you can create the necessary distance for your double-throw attacks if necessary.
  • Position yourself well during combat and beware of dangerous crowds of enemies and hostile auras.
  • Use Frenzy (in melee combat) to generate enough stacks of Frenzy, then attack with Double Throw at optimal attack speed for maximum damage. You can also use double throw in melee range without any problems - it remains a ranged attack with the corresponding damage. The throwing barbarian plays are similar to the frenzy barbarian colleague with the option to distance himself from dangerous opponents and bosses.
  • Use your Find Item skill for another chance at loot.
  • Have fun and good looting with this iconic, fun-to-play build!

When players enter Diablo 2 Resurrected they can build a powerful structure following this guide above. If you want to build faster then you can buy d2r ladder items.
