Oh Nintendo

Oh, Nintendo, how you have brought me up in the gaming world. I've been with you through the ups and the downs. I have been so angry with you that I sworn off your products, just to come back and fall in love all over again.

Nintendo, we have a pretty toxic relationship, but I thought it was finally settling down. Then you go and add Nintendo 64 and Sega titles to the online library and up your yearly price to $49.99 for Individual Nintendo accounts. We have finally reached up there in the same price range as the competitors. One big problem for me....."WE STILL HAVE NO GOOD ONLINE COMMUNICATIONS!!!"

If you are familiar with the Nintendo Switch App and the three games it supports for its online voice communications, then you know the frustrations and how its just easier to hop on Discord with your buddies and have a better time. Why can we not get a regular way to communicate in game? Then again I'm sure we would be looking at a $59.99+ price tag for online services.

The Good

There are some good things about the new additions to the Online Network family, to be fair. They started off with some really solid N64 titles, some inlcuding: Super Mario 64, StarFox 64, Mario Kart 64, Mario Tennis, Yoshi's Story, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Winback, and Dr. Mario 64. Let's not forget the updates that we get! They have been adding great titles to the NES and SNES online services as well. I would say that's about enough to get excited about what else might hit in the N64 realm.

Let's touch on the Sega Games. Honestly, I'm not really too excited about these. I wasn't the biggest Sega fan and the games they released first make me feel like there isn't much more to release. Maybe some of you Sega Fans out there know way more than me. Here is just a small list of the main titles for the Sega release: Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Ecco the Dolphin, Streets of Rage 2, Contra, and Golden Axe. Out of the other games released with these, these were the only ones that I am familiar with. I'm a little "Eh" on the Sega games for now, but we shall see what happens.

The Wondering

With these older games getting a lot of attention lately, it makes one wonder what could be store for us in the future. There are many possibilities including, Gameboy titles, GBA titles, heck, maybe even some DS titles. We could get real crazy and throw some Gamecube in there. Which brings me to another point. Where are all my Gamecube fans!? That console was hands down one of the best Nintendo releases.

The Bad

Ok, we have a lot of fun old school titles to play online now with friends, and in ways that were not possible in those days but we still don't have any means of voice communication in-game. I know I touched on this briefly but it obviously is a problem. The Nintendo App is supposed to be the way we can communicate with each other during game, but if you have ever used it you know its pure crap.

I will take another price bump if it means that we could communicate in game. There are a lot of titles out there that would be so much better with in game communication. Rocket League, being one of them, but we all know how well that one has turned out. How could you go wrong with allowing in game chat for let's say...Mario Party, or Mario Kart. Those titles would be a couple fun ones to throw in there too.

In Conclusion

The price bump up for the "expansion pak" of online games for the Switch isn't so bad. We have some great titles, with more coming, and Nintendo has always appeased the fans with their innovations. Let's just get some in game communication and you would have one happy Nintendo Fan!
