The Most Anticipated Games of Q1 2018

While some gamers prefer to let the hype train pass them by and jump aboard the patience ferry, others are the perfect representation of the 'shut up and take my money' meme.

Understandably so. If 2018 is anything like last year, we won't be saving money anytime soon.

With the big two—consisting of Sony and Microsoft—having released souped-up versions of their current-gen consoles it makes sense for the quality titles to finally come along.

Here are some of the most anticipated games releasing in the first quarter of 2018.

It's safe to say 2017 was an incredible year for fighting games. Injustice 2, Tekken 7 and a new Marvel vs. Capcom.

With a budding community and constantly growing eSports scene, the genre is going places that were unimaginable ten years ago.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is being brought to us by Arc System Works, the same outfit responsible for the stellar BlazBlue and Guilty Gear series.

While titles like Street Fighter V get the worldwide exposure, efforts like the most recent Guilty Gear are what fighting game dreams are made of.

Fans of Dragon Ball have been clamoring for a quality fighting game for years and many believe this is finally it.

Don't take my word for it, just look at how seamless that gameplay is. It really seems like they've been able to encapsulate—yes, that was a Dragon Ball pun—the essence of the series. Grandiose battles and all.

Yet another title releasing on January 26. You can forget about paying off those Christmas debts, for this month at least.

After initially finding success on PS2 and PSP and switching over to Nintendo for a few years, Capcom's epic action-RPG is back with the big boys.

Not that Nintendo hasn't earned their spot back after a sublime 2017, but having Monster Hunter World on PS4 and Xbox One will help introduce the franchise to a new audience.

Don't get it twisted, most of their devoted fan base will pick this game up. They sell like hotcakes in Japan. Oddly enough, I kinda wish I could play this one on the go. Like on a hybrid Nintendo console, for example?

Moreover, Capcom needs a win right now. After the sub-par offerings that were Resident Evil 7 and Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite last year, they're just itching for a bounce back title.

This was one of my personal favorite gaming experiences of 2016. Owlboy originally dropped on PC in November 2016 to widespread critical acclaim.

Developers D-Pad Studio are finally bringing the action platformer to consoles on February 13.

Significant others worry not, this splendid gem won't take up too much of your partner's time and shouldn't affect your Valentine's Day plans. Better yet, maybe you'll both want to enjoy this touching story of a young boy—an Owlboy, that is—trying to save his village from a band of pirates.

With its Metroidvanian influence, fantastic pixel art style, and solid mechanics, Owlboy is my sleeper hit of the first quarter of 2018. Add it to your wishlist; you won't regret it.

While I don't personally own an Xbox One—or a capable PC rig, for that matter—I have to admit the premise in Sea of Thieves is pretty cool.

This coming from someone who was enamored with Assassin's Creed 4's ship battles and pirate-y aesthetic.

While this isn't 1995 and there aren't any visible primates featured in the trailer, the fact Rare is developing this is also pretty neat.

Sea of Thieves will also come backed by Microsoft Studios and the marketing dollars that tag along with it.

They need to make sure they nail this one; what good is the most powerful console on the market if there aren't any quality games that come with it?
