In the delay announcement video, Link is seen standing next to a fascinating floating orb of energy, with a distinct golden glow emanating from it. The camera then zooms in on the legendary Master Sword, which appears to be in a state of disrepair with faint blue glows. Link is seen examining the weapon, perhaps contemplating the battles that lie ahead. Although the delay may be disappointing, it's clear that the development team is putting in the effort to ensure that the game meets the high standards of the series. Fans can rest assured that the end result will be a captivating and immersive experience.

The third trailer revealed an intriguing new portrait that seemed to depict a battle between soldiers and a group of Moblins and Bokoblins. The scene also featured a mysterious figure surrounded by seven symbols, along with characters who seemed to resemble Princess Zelda and the corpse from the original announcement trailer. In the subsequent gameplay footage, Link can be seen bravely pushing open a large door and jumping into a seemingly never-ending free fall. He then hops onto a large boulder that's soaring through the sky, as a colossal storm brews in the distance. After that, Link expertly scales the root of a tree that protrudes from a floating rock. Finally, Link tumbles out of the sky above Hyrule and lands on a massive, airborne contraption that he takes the helm of with apparent ease.

The latest Nintendo Direct trailer showcases the dire situation in both the sky and land versions of Hyrule as a menacing voice commands its minions to wipe out the kingdom and leave no survivors. A Blood Moon ominously looms in the sky as it launches projectiles that transform the creatures of Hyrule into even stronger monsters. Link is seen bravely battling against these formidable foes, including a giant blocky golem and five mechanical arms that approach him like the feet of a guardian scout. Zelda expresses doubts about Link's ability to stop "him," as a mummified corpse briefly appears on screen.

Link is also shown utilizing new tools and vehicles, including a land vehicle, a hot air balloon, and a hovercraft, as he skydives to the surface of Hyrule and reaches out to a mysterious feminine figure. The trailer ends with a stream of malice flowing and Link performing a heroic act of self-sacrifice while Zelda prays for someone to lend him power. The trailer culminates with the reveal of the title as the ominous voices from the first trailer echo in the background, and a falling object is seen in the distance, hinting at the perilous adventure that lies ahead.

According to reports, work on the 20th installment of The Legend of Zelda series began in 2017, right after Breath of the Wild was completed. In E3 2019, it was officially revealed that the game would be a direct sequel to Breath of the Wild. Eiji Aonuma, who served as a producer on Breath of the Wild, wanted to return to the same Hyrule while incorporating new gameplay mechanics and an entirely new storyline. Originally, the developers were just brainstorming ideas for DLC, but they eventually decided to turn these ideas into a new game due to the sheer volume of fresh concepts they came up with.

In a statement made during the announcement of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity on September 8, 2020, Eiji Aonuma teased that Nintendo was actively working on the next installment of the Legend of Zelda series, but advised fans that they would need to exercise some patience before any official announcements could be made. In a later interview in December, Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, confirmed that the company was working on the game, but emphasized that they would only unveil details when they felt that they had enough information to share with their loyal fan base.

The E3 2021 Nintendo Direct on June 15th, 2021, unveiled the second trailer and gameplay showcase for the upcoming game. The trailer highlighted numerous abilities and the new world of Hyrule, providing gamers with a sneak peek into the game's features. It was also announced that the game is expected to release in 2022, although an exact release date has not yet been confirmed.

"On October 3rd, Nintendo UK took to Twitter to acknowledge the latest announcement for The Legend of Zelda game, titled Tears of the Kingdom, which was revealed during the September 13, 2022 Nintendo Direct. This announcement, which also included a release date of May 12, 2023, was not livestreamed by Nintendo UK as a mark of respect during the national period of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II."

Fans worldwide were thrilled when the new game, Tears of the Kingdom, was announced under the name "Sequel to Breath of the Wild." The popularity of Breath of the Wild, which won the Game of the Year award at the 2017 Japan Game Awards and is considered one of the most popular games on the Nintendo Switch, only added to the excitement.Speculations have been running wild about whether Princess Zelda will be a playable character or if multiplayer will be added, but when asked, Aonuma has remained tight-lipped on the subject.

Following the title reveal of Tears of the Kingdom during the September 13, 2022 Nintendo Direct, some fans were uncertain if the word "tears" in the title referred to emotional tears or physical tears as in rips. To clarify the confusion, Nintendo released a statement a few days later confirming that the title refers to emotional tears. The specific kingdom referred to in the title is yet to be determined, as it could mean Hyrule Kingdom, one of the smaller kingdoms in Hyrule, or a previously unknown kingdom.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be released on May 12, 2023.
