Vision Pro: Apple's new augmented reality headset unveiled. Content Warning.
Apple has announced its highly anticipated augmented reality (AR) headset, called Apple Vision Pro. The headset, unveiled by CEO Tim Cook, aims to seamlessly blend the real and virtual worlds. It has a two-hour battery life and is priced at $3,499 (£2,849), significantly higher than existing virtual reality headsets. The release is scheduled for early next year in the US. The device is designed more like a pair of ski goggles than a traditional VR headset and focuses on augmented reality experiences, such as watching videos or immersing oneself in photography. Apple hopes to position it as an everyday device rather than just for gaming. However, there are concerns about the limited content available for the headset and its high price point, potentially limiting its appeal to mainstream consumers. The announcement follows similar updates from Meta and Lenovo in the virtual reality headset market. The AR/VR industry as a whole has experienced a decline in sales, but Apple aims to leverage its track record of innovation and user adoption to drive interest in its new product.
