Just What Makes 'Mortal Kombat' so Special?
Back in 1992, Mortal Kombat hit the scene so hard it straight up decapitated it and ensured that Kombat with a K would be remembered forever. That's not to say the series is without some serious missteps, but unlike Sonic the Hedgehog, there's no question as to why Mortal Kombat has endured to this day. As co-creator, John Tobias, once said, “It'll be around 50 years from now.” Tobias might not be attached to the property any more, but he's still right. If you'll stay and read a moment, I'd like to outline just what makes this bloody game so bloody special.
Suspicious CookPublished 6 years ago in GamersThe Enduring Appeal of 'Dynasty Warriors'
Dynasty Warriors is a series of video games published by Tecmo Koei and developed by Omega Force that has spanned generations of consoles and appealed to the hearts of a contingent of loyal fans. Yet, although the franchise has developed a cult following among its devotees, many design decisions have prevented the hack-and-slash experience from ever fully realizing its mainstream potential. While the technology of the underlying hardware has continued to propel itself into the future, the core mechanics within these games remain largely unchanged, save for a few quality of life improvements. And while each iteration has grown progressively more expansive and involved, the gameplay formula continues to boil down to a few simple yet satisfying button commands.
The Future for 'Fortnite'
The Beginning The original Fortnite logo from the 2011 VGA trailer Fortnite has just in recent months became a household name. Regardless of who you are, you have heard the name, but few people realize its origins. Epic Games developed one of the biggest game series from the mid 2000s to to early 2010s, Gears of War. After Gears of War 3, the devs at Epic were looking to do something new. This is where the idea for Fortnite was born in 2011. The first trailer for Fortnite was shown at VGA 2011 as a survival shooter game. No one could have guessed what it would become by 2017.

Fight Night Champion seems to be the title where EA Sports got everything right in a boxing game. What they produced was a well-balanced title where the difficulty could be adjusted to how good the player was, but allow them to increase the challenge as appropriate. In previous titles, it was very easy to get used to how the artificial intelligence played and therefore score a well-timed knockout. Fight Night Champion puts the player in the fight for the long run, the drama of the fight unfolds when a player decides to use his melon and throw shots at the right time. First though, let's talk about the graphics; the animation is awesome with very few glitches. The copy I played was for the XBox 360 and apart from the odd arm through the ropes, there weren't many glitches. Boxers seem to get knocked over as they would in a real fight and the player is able to hit them until they go down, just like the sport itself. There is a huge number of licensed boxers in this game when we think of how professional boxers used to get an entire game dedicated to them, it's strange to see the likes of George Foreman, Evander Holyfield, and Mike Tyson all in the same game together.
Farcry 2: Purposefully Unpleasant
With the recent release of Farcry 5, I felt it was best to look at the past misteps in this long running franchise's veteran career. There was a time when no one knew about the open ended gameplay that has existed in Farcry for years, with the breakout title of the series of course being Farcry 3. But even fewer people remember its edgy, no nonsense older brother Farcry 2. And this is for good reason. By all accounts, the game was purposefully designed to break down the fun that gamers feel when playing a game such as this.
