In Nintendo's latest direct held on February 17, 2021, the company announced The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD remake. Just like any big announcement, fans spewed out their opinions onto social media in droves. The Legend Of Zelda fans on social media have taken sides—arguing to answer the same question, is Skyward Sword worth buying or not worth buying? Having played through the game on the Wii, my opinion is that it is worth buying on the Switch. I have three spoiler-free reasons why I think you should buy The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD remake.

Reason 1 To Buy Skyward Sword: Story

The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword tells the earliest known story of the characters, items, and places in The Legend Of Zelda universe. Your adventure begins in Skyloft. A sky-island where humans have lived in protection from the evil that inhabits the Surface. The humans on Skyloft know very little about the Surface, as the records of its history have long been lost. Unaware of the evil below, they have the hero the Surface needs in their midst, Link, Hylia's chosen one.

Link has to go on a familiar adventure, trying to find Zelda. She has been captured by a mysterious dark force and Link, the goddess' chosen hero, is the only one who can rescue her. Hopping on his trusty Loftwing, a large bird capable of transporting humans, Link takes off to the Surface below to fight the evil forces who have captured Zelda.

Learning the earliest history of Hyrule is a delight. Playing through this game will give you "ah-hah" moments aplenty with several reveals on essential items used by Link throughout the Zelda timeline. There is much more history to learn through Skyward Sword's storyline that will intrigue any fan.

Those are the story details in my own words, but if you want to learn more, I encourage you to read the Zelda Gamepedia page (if you do not mind spoilers.)

Reason 2 To Buy Skyward Sword: Dungeons

Ah yes, dungeons. Go look up the biggest complaint about The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild. In what is considered by most to be one of the best games ever made, you will find many players were not happy with the lack of dungeons.

That problem does not exist in Skyward Sword. One of the best parts of the game is its seven dungeons. The dungeons are enormous! The puzzles are well thought out, and the music sets up the atmosphere perfectly. Exploring the dungeons for hours was a treat and my favorite part of Skyward Sword.

If you do not mind spoilers, I urge you to research the dungeons yourself. With a quick Google search, you will see plenty of discussions on which Skyward Sword dungeon is the best, and you will find very detailed descriptions of each one.

Controlling Link's Attacks Was Frustrating In The Wii Version

Reason 3 To Buy Skyward Sword: Controls

I saved the most important reason for last! The biggest complaint I had when playing Skyward Sword was the motion controls. Out of sync and awkward, the original controls on the Wii made playing the game a struggle at times. If you Google Skyward Sword complaints, the most brought up issue by a wide margin is the controls.

With the promise of new button controls being added to the Switch HD remake, this ought to excite fans to play Skyward Sword even more. The story and dungeons were solid additions to the Zelda universe. If it had better controls or a traditional controller option, Skyward Sword would be remembered in a far better light than it is today.

I will also mention that Nintendo has promised the motion controls have been fixed in the HD version. The sword attacks are supposed to be more responsive and precise using the joy-cons superior motion control technology. These control improvements should move The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword up in the ranks of the fan's favorite titles.

You can pre-order The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD on the Nintendo Switch here. The game releases on July 16, 2021, and is priced at $59.99.
