Same but Different

Many of you are aware of this crossover and the series of video games that come with it.

What you may not know is that there are certain similarities between games like Street Fighter, King of Fighters and Tekken

Chun Li (Street Fighter) and Mai Shiranui (Fatal Fury)

Chun Li was the first woman in the Street Fighter series to make an appearance in Street Fighter 2 that was released in March of 1991 and Mai Shiranui was the first female character in the Fatal Fury series that was released in 1992.

The difference between them is obvious of course. Mai Shiranui being the heir to the Shiranui school of Ninjitsu and Chun-Li being a police officer with Interpol. Then of course you have Mai's infatuation with Andy Bogard whereas Chun-Li so far has only seen Ryu as a fellow martial artist and ally against Shadaloo.

Another obvious difference between the two is their styles of fighting.

Chun Li's fighting style is obviously based off Chinese Martial Arts and various styles of Kung-fu with some Tai-Chi thrown into it. While Mai Shiranui's style of fighting is obviously based off of Ninjitsu.

Asuka Kazama and Emilie de Rochefort (Tekken) and Saukra Kasugano and Karin Kanzuki (Street Fighter).

Both Asuka Kazama and Emilie de Rochefort (aka Lili) both made their first appearance in Tekken 5. Sakura Kasugano made her first appearance in the Street Fighter Alpha 2 in 1996 while also appearing the Rival Schools series, while Karin Kanzuki appeared in the manga Sakura Ganburu! and became a playable character in Street Fighter Alpha 3.

While Asuka and Sakura both are hot headed teens with a passion for fighting, Sakura's style of fighting was created from witnessing Ryu's fighting style and being a devout follower of him. Asuka has the Kazama style of martial arts that has been taught to her from childhood on up.

Lili and Karin are similar in terms of being entitled rich kids, but unlike Karin who is the head of the Kanzuki Zaibatsu, Lili is more of a socialite and high school student than a CEO.

A secondary difference between the two is that Karin comes off as a spoiled brat whereas Lili doesn't seem to show that so that much.

Finally, the style of fighting Karin is the fictional fighting style Kanzuki-ryu, with multiple fighting styles that can be found at the website below (1)

Lili's fighting style on the other hand is Gymnastics combined with Street Fighting and Self-Taught Style (2)

E. Honda (Street Fighter), Ganryu (Tekken) and Taka-Arashi (Virtua Fighter)

Edmonda Honda made his first appearance the same time as Chun-Li in the 2nd Street Fighter game. Whereas Ganryu appeared in the very first Tekken game and Taka Arashi appeared in Virtua Fighter 3.

In terms of being Sumo wrestlers (obviously) is the way they approach Sumo wrestling.

E. Honda takes is role as Ozeki very seriously and does everything he can to promote the spirit of Sumo Wrestling despite getting annoyed at people like Manon for not understanding what's so great about Sumo Wrestling. Whereas Ganryu was considered proud and arrogant leading to his dismissal from the sport and having a gambling problem, which in later years he moved past such a thing. Finally, Taka-Arashi is often defined as being usually brutal in a fight and seems to treat his style of fighting as more important than anything.

Another difference between the three of them is that Edmonda Honda runs a traditional Japanese Bathhouse while Ganryu is struggling to run a restaurant named Chanko Paradise that specializes in a type of Sumo cuisine. Taka-Arashi seems to have nothing else going for him other than Sumo wrestling, even though his character has been retired from the series.
