Seattle, August 15, 2023 – The Seattle Seahawks community is mourning the untimely loss of former running back Alex Collins, who tragically passed away on Monday at the age of 28 due to a motorcycle accident. Collins, a beloved figure among fans and teammates alike during his two stints with the Seahawks, leaves behind a legacy of determination, enthusiasm, and an infectious smile that lit up both the football field and the lives of those around him.

In a heartfelt statement, Collins' family shared, "It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Alex Collins this morning. Alex was cherished by his family, friends, and supporters from all around the world. Known for his drive, determination, and larger-than-life personality, Alex made an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege to know him. During this difficult time, we request your thoughts and prayers for our family and ask for privacy as we navigate through our grief. Further information about funeral arrangements will be shared in due course."

Seahawks' Executive VP and General Manager, John Schneider, expressed his sorrow, saying, "The Seahawks family along with the 12s are so saddened to hear of Alex's passing. Alex's infectious smile and classic river dance skills will forever be missed. Alex would light up a room and was beloved by our entire building. He enjoyed life and attacked it on the football field. He was one of the most productive runners in SEC history. Our sincere condolences to his immediate family, the Gatewood family, and his agent Kelli Masters. You will be forever missed, Alex. On behalf of Jody Allen, Pete Carroll, Chuck Arnold, Chad Morton, and the entire Seahawks community, rest in peace, brother."

Collins first joined the Seahawks in 2016 as a fifth-round pick, displaying his potential and passion for the game. After a stint with the Baltimore Ravens, he returned to Seattle in 2020 and 2021, becoming a pivotal player in reigniting the team's running game. His contribution on the field was matched only by his vibrant personality off it.

Seahawks' Coach Pete Carroll spoke fondly of Collins in 2021, noting, "He's got a great spirit that he brings to the team. He's doing really well. I'm fired up about him."

Beyond his athletic prowess, Collins endeared himself to Seattle fans with his iconic smile and joyful demeanor. His distinctive Irish dance touchdown celebration became a symbol of his unique spirit, paying homage to the dance form he embraced before his NFL journey, which helped enhance his footwork skills.

Hailing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Collins' football journey saw him shine at South Plantation High School before excelling at Arkansas. Notably, he stood out as one of three players in SEC history to achieve the remarkable feat of rushing for over 1,000 yards in three consecutive seasons—a testament to his exceptional talent and dedication.

As the football world mourns the loss of Alex Collins, his legacy of positivity, determination, and boundless energy will undoubtedly endure. His impact on and off the field will remain an inspiration for players and fans alike, reminding everyone to approach life with the same zeal that he did.
