-Chapter 4 Library Visit-

"Thanks. Hope things go better for you all." Vladis received everything and left. Stepping outside the moonlight caught him and the fairies. "Ahh fresh night air." Slowly the natural essences from the surroundings wrapped around him. A reflex of his pulling it into his body mentally out of habit. "Oops!"

Cutting the flow off, he relaxed. The magical cultivation technique he started to use would cause problems in this time frame. It was not released in-game until a few years from now. Even more so, he wished to head to the library to get a few more things under his built to help explain things.

No need to get held up on matters from a developer or the Help Desk.

The fairies' eyes lit up in understanding. They were sure that Vladis was a User to pay attention to even more so now. The first fairy, Noin thought knowingly about some things. Her eyes flashing as she made sure the Game Logs recorded nothing unusual.

'It is good I made contact so soon. I will have to hide some of his "Code" for a while. The others will think he is just a fairly interesting User. I can not let them know he is from the future like the other one.' Noin ruffled his hair a little more as she made a pillow. 'Need to make a quick move to help guide him to the correct cultivation manual to mask things.'

"Really nice." A black-clothed fairy said. She flew from his hair to his front shirt pocket. Wanting to see more things on the same level as Vladis. "Where are we going?"

"Huh? What do you mean we? I figure you all would be bored and take off by now." Vladis expected them to shoot off for a bit and then come back. But they stood and helped around in the place while chatting.

"Nope." Noin said. "Your hair is comfy and you are not that bad of a guy. Maybe when you go out and fight monsters, we might leave."

"Yeah, you are so weak we might all get eaten." The red fairy said from his ear in partial jest. "You should go train fist. Wait, you said you wanted to go to the library."

"Yeah, I need info." Vladis voiced while walking the streets. Eyes taking in everything as he finally noticed a few small changes. 'More Nucs are out and it seems livelier. Food for thought.'

"Then go to the library first. I know a few books to grab." Noin said hurriedly.

"Ohhh study party!" The green fairy said. She flew out ahead of everyone. "I am gonna get some drinks to take with! Especially if we are gone be there awhile!"

"I am coming to. If not you will buy all the same thing. We need variety!" The red fairy added. "What do you want Vladis?"

"Suprise me." Vladis walked off again after the two disappeared. After walking down a few streets then pulling up the map, he felt better. 'Need to change these settings, This is way to obvious!'

The map was crystal blue and glowed. Pulling it out was noticeable especially in darkness. Even with the street lights. Opening his settings, a few tweaks while he walked and it was done.

The map was now a dull gray with nothing special about it. Standard quests now showed in gold. Any active ones he took were in green.

After picking up the few night quests, Vladis finally found his way to the library. He was happy it was open 24 hours. Going in, he slid his Id into the check in.

Any book he wanted to check out, would be recorded and display a timer for how long he had it for. And for how long it could remain without charging him late fees.  He was allowed to have them for 1 day before fees started gathering in the beginning. Exactly 24 hours till his reputation with the library increased.

"I need books on the surrounding area, myths & legends, plant life, monsters, and the most important, basic cultivations."

"You want our Fairy one?" Noin asked floating in front. She thought she hid it well, but Vladis caught the look in her eye. She was seeing if he would take the "easy" way out. "Only a slight cost to do so."

"Nah, I do not think it would suit me. Besides, I have the feeling it comes with some trouble." Vladis shook his head firmly no. 'I have a lot of information and a good way to build myself already. I may be a Mental Mage, but the Vampire sub-race will allow me to go the same route as my previous route melee wise.'

"Well... yeah it does. You would be turned into a fairy." The black clothed fairy said.

"Yeah... no. I like my height. As well as like the things I can do now. I rather expand than limit, no offense to you all." Vladis spoke with practice ease. This was the response he had for anyone that would offer their Manual to him that he didnt know anything about or generally heard bad things about. "But thank you very much. Still travel companions?"

"Yes!" The four fairies said togethor. They did a little twirl and danced around happily. Vladis just stared in shock.

(Reputation increase by 600 Fairy Race. You are now a "Friend" of the race.)

(2nd User to become friends of fairies. Rewards: Essence 50, Fairy Ring Gathering Rank XII. Would you like to share achievement?)

'Not on my life!' Vladis declined after weighing the pros and cons. It not only made the announcement on this server, but on all of them. The one thing the developers agree on was to not force people to share that info. 'I rather go at my own pace.'

(Level up to 1. User is now Gathering Realm Rank I. 2 stat points awarded, 2 skill points awarded.)

(Secret Quest: The Fairies would like to designate you a Fairy Home point. Doing so will give User access to the Fairy shop Gathering Rank I. Do you accept?

Negatives: Disposition with Gremlins turn Hostile.)

Vladis accepted with ease. He had no plans on dealing with the little critters in the first place. The biggest reason, is that they steal and lied with every other sentence. No way would he deal with them in this life if he could help it.

"Well let's get started shall we." Smiling he went searching using the "Book Help" option. Not forgetting to put the ring on, he was not suprised to feel it bound to him. The silver band felt cool on his finger. He could feel the clear gem absorb stray loose essences. 'So low it is not noticeable. That is good. I need to check on that later if it can help hide my natural pull in mentally. First time I received something like this. Suprise no stat bonuses.'

The fairies found a room and occupied it. Then went to get various books. While going through, Vladis noticed a few of the books they had grab.

It confirmed that they were Users. To be specific, controlled by them. The books were things for certain classes and races. A few specific for Females and Hermadophites. None were ghosting as a male. At least at this time anyway. He would not knock people from trying to improve themselves while at work.

Especially when it did not affect him negatively.

After grabbing over a 100 books, he sat down. The fairies had about 25 each themselves.

The two that went to get drinks had returned and spread out. They grabbed three books themselves. A lot of the books the others grabbed were what they were looking for.

"Here you go Vladis." The Red fairy passed over a red beverage. "You are a member of the Nightfolk so RedMoon drink should be up your alley."

"Thank you. Here you go as well. It is just Basic cookies but better than nothing." He pulled it from his inventory and sat it on the table. "Eat up."

"Sweet!" The basic cookies were something each User had. It increased Essences' gained by 0.5 for one hour.  She started digging in instantly. "So yummy." Also really delicious to help the User Synchro rating to rise up.

The reason why he was sharing, because it was not a big deal. Eating one himself would allow the essencese bar to rise faster. But seeing the fairy so ecstatic was worth it. She did after all get him a Red Moon drink.

While reading, Vladis checked over the items in his inventory.

Threaded Vest: Increase in Reputation gain by 2%

Mana Regeneration 5%

Defense 5

Durability 200

Class: Any

Threaded Pants: Increase in Reputation gain by 3%

Mana Regeneration 5%

Defense 5

Durability 300

Class: Any

'Equip.' Mentally saying the command his clothes swirled and changed in an instant.

The Vest was ash gray as well as the pants. They fit him perfectly.

"Nice clothes. Quite bold to change in front of people like that." The green fairy said. She had a cinnamon roll in her mouth as she eyed Vladis. "Should have done it the old-fashioned way all slow like." Her eyebrows wiggled suggestively.

"Haha." Vladis chuckled closing the book he was reading halfway. Thumb holding the position still. "Well if I have a room to myself and you want me to do so, no problem. But not everyone wants to see me like that. The body is quite pasty!"

He gave her a full tooth smile. The green fairy cheeks went red at the thought. She licked her lips absently. "I will hold you to it! You will make a good model for me to draw!"

"Ehem!" Noin interrupted cheeks puffed. "We are here to learn!"

"We are learning." Vladis said. "I just learn she likes to draw. No reason to get upset." He looked back down and started reading again. A few minutes went by with no problem. The atmosphere was very comfortable to him. 'Reminds me of my first Party before things happened.'

Good thing he needed to study as those terrible thoughts caused anger to surface a little.

.

-Chapter 5 -

.

It was not long before the black fairy stopped him on a page. She was reading the same books he was reading from the location of his pocket. Weird but not to much so. She defintely was able to read things faster than him.

"That is your subrace. No reason to try and hide it anymore. We have been with you long enough." The black fairy spoke plainly without a hint of malice. "We will not say anything. Also, we can not anyway."

"Yeah, your alright Vladis. You havent tried to take advantage of us for quests or information. We are Help from the game you know?" Green Fairy said. The fairies were pretty lax in the room. They had been talking telepathically with each other the entire time.

"Did you get permission to talk about it then?" The Red fairy asked. She received a nod and they all relaxed visibly. "That is great."

"So Vladis to be real with you, we may come to you for help in the future. You will receive.."

"Um no." Vladis answered waving his hand to stop her. "I am on this type of server for a reason to enjoy it an everything fully. Getting involved with developers sounds like a hassle and a breach of all kinds of things later. I won't ask you for assurance since I know it is impossible. It has always ended badly for Users who do in the past."

He was referring to another game. One done by the same Developers actually.

"Wait! Hold on!" The black fairy flew up. "It is not like we are sending you to super dangerous stuff. Just areas with reports on Game Instability. Or people that have used illegal hardware sometimes."

"Anyone using illegal hardware should just be killed accidentally!" Vladis said angrily. His body reacted in kind causing his fangs to finally come out. "Their is no reason to spare the! Cut out the problem at the very moment of finding it!"

"It is because of the game "Record of War" that you played previously?" Blue Fairy said calmly. She had done a background check on Vladis that was very illegal. "I know your history and I know you could use help getting your life back togethor."

"Hard pass. I have money from the lawsuit and my home is paid for. I lost friends and family due to that incident. But I have no plans to reconnect with either groups." This was from the info from the future. Nothing good came from trying to reconnect with them. 'Glad I received this info not. It would have ended terribly.'

Remembering how much time he spent in his last life making amends, he realized he was foolish to do so. They would never trust him or view him the same way again. They even used him a bit for his money. When he reached out when pushed as a Villain in this game, his cousins told several people his locations in-game. This led to multiple quest failures and his reputation dropping dangerously fast.

This time, he would take care of that and break off completely from them. They knew nothing of the lawsuit so he was in the clear there. Even more, the reason why his game Id is different and he left the race up to random. Just in case he slips a little.

"You have no real bargaining power to offer me. If you try to ban me from the game, I will just find another one." Vladis said offhand. Not having any reason to play the game besides the advantage he had, their was no real reason to stay. Well, he did wish to help his friends in the future. 'I can just join chat rooms and give them a little help actually. No need for me to play the game directly. I am in the past somehow, so it defintely has me tied to this game. But what exactly is it? Not like a receive a quest explaining things to me.'

"Woah Woah! Calm down!" Green Fairy said. She floated in front of Vladis looking worried. "They have jumped the gun but I will not. You said no, so it is no. But as new friends, I hope you can help every now and then?"

"As friends, yes."

Vladis went back to reading. Calming his mind by trying to learn as much info as he could.

The Fairies left. All but the first one anyway. Noin was looking Vladis over carefully. She was judging his rage over the past events and thinking of ways to get him invested in the "game" more.

'It seems I will have to do that method. I cannot risk him leaving the game. Even if he helps another way, it would not work well.' Noin searched the library for a book to help pique his interest more. She found one that she hoped would sate his curiosity to help. 'This book is on the Legend of the Crypt. His friend that disappeared on him in the past was a Necromancer. Surely this will help. They log in few more years from now. So that makes things a little problematic.'

.

  -Office Room-

.

"He declined. I cannot believe it!" The User for Red Fairy said angrily. But she had a smile on her face. "At least we were able to write it off. The "developers" have looked into another User after the submission."

"But he would have been a good one. I mean didnt even bat an eye to the benefits." Purple Fairy User said.

"Well, at least we are still on friendly terms at least." Green Fairy User said sitting down. "Once the traffic for the game slows down with complaints and Help tickets, I plan on joining him for some time."

"Really?" Purple fairy asked.

"Yeah.  I mean he allowed us to use him as a home base for the fairies we use. Counting in all the books he will read, I think he will go a lot of places. We can still do our jobs with no issue." Red fairy smiled broadly.

"I should not have peaked into his info. I can not believe I slipped up like that!" Blue Fairy said admonishing herself. "I forgot just that quick about the guild incident. He is very sensitive about personal info. To excited to pay attention. Ughh rookie mistake!"

"Yeah, he is. For good reason. But since he is not going to make things up with his friends and family, that is less we have to worry about." The green fairy said.

"Meaning?"

"If they found out, they might have tried to get him to have us give secrets." Black Fairy was quite calm as she spoke. "Getting back on to his good grace's will help for the future. When the game gets harder he may seek us out on his own."

"Yeah..." Red Fairy hummed a little. The others looked at her in interest. "That drink I gave him contains blood. I did not know he was a Vampire at the time really. He sipped it like it was normal. His synchro rate is high."

"But he didnt attack us." Blue fairy said a little worried.

"It is because he kept his calm a little. I mean he bore his fangs at us but didnt move. The control is pretty damn good. Glad he was only level one." Red Fairy leaned back in her rolling chair. "If he would of attack that would have been bad."

"Hey.. the first fairy that met him is an Nuc. How are things going to go for her?"

"I put in the command for her to travel with him. That way we always will have some info on what he is up to. I will find a way to get something for him for that." Purple Fairy said. "But the coding for that fairy already shows it has started to bond to him. The help he displayed in the guild to the others piqued its interest. Then him not lashing in an attack at us, pushed it furthur. Her personal reputation towards him is at trusted."

"As long as we do not break any more laws or policies, I think it will be fine." Green Fairy said. She gave a glare towards Blue fairy. The others raised their eyebrows at her. "Just a hunch. He looks to be really into his role already. It is only day one remember. Well, actually day two."

"That is enough of work. No overtime anymore. Go home and rest. I will see everyone tomorrow." Purple Fairy walked off. The others following suit, except for Blue fairy.

She looked over the incident with Vladis in more detail. All the footage from when he logged on.

"Haaa, not out of the ordinary. He logged in and looked around the place for a while. Shows his pleasure centers spike when he entered the building.  Excitement looking at the races and relooking at them." Then she spotted it. "Wait.. he looked really fondly at a beast folk. Not lust or anything else, besides pure bliss."

The beastfolk was that of a German Shepard mix. Already in trouble, she pulled up the mental memory associated with it. Curiosity getting the better of her.

On the screen showed a young boy and his dog. They played and had fun with a few other kids. The image shifted. To a young man standing over a grave. The marker up top with the name Brutus.

"Shit, that is what I get from being nosey." Blue fairy realized the dog had died and left the memory to leave.

Turning off the lights in the office, she missed the computer kept running in the background. It was the Help Advisor that glitched with Vladis. She took in all the personal data then erased her digital tracks. This covered for the Blue fairy and allowed the helper to gain all the relative information.

.

-Vladis in the library-

.

"Ah, that is a lot of reading. Defintely worth it." Vladis gave a stretch and got up to return all the books he finished. Only 13% done it was time to spend his stats to help in this category. "Cannot neglect mental since it is in my class benefit. The physical can defintely come later at the training hall. Open Status Screen. Hmmm, those five from the error need to be used as well. Forgot about those but wouldn't have changed much with the way things panned out."

"Umm, can I see?" Noin asked floating in front. Vladis shook his head and allowed it. A slight buzz in his head gave the fairy access. "Your skill points continue to hold off. Training will take care of it right now to elevate it."

"Hmmm, thought the same. The main stats are fair enough for me to fight in the area. With the secondary ones having risen, that will do." Vladis could talk about the stats after they had unlocked. Having read the corresponding book with them in the library he was quite happy to get that out the way."

"Vladis read this book next." Noin floated a red book over. "It is tied deeper into your subrace. It also has something special in it." The little fairy walked on the table and grabbed a cookie. "These are good."

"Yes, they are." Vladis grabbed a cookie-eating it all in one bite. "Better with juice. I definitely wished we had some more. But I am a little sleepy. I will finish this and catch come zzz's." Noin gave him a nod and flew into his hair. using his hair as a blanket, she started to doze off. Little traces of mana seeping into Vladis. 'Refreshing. But this book is better than the basic cultivation I was gonna start." Vladis turned and thanked the fairy before he started to read.

The book title was called, All are fighters, all are defenders, the body is the ultimate healer. Reading it was going to take a few hours. Vladis would push through it till the medical alert goes off. First day Users could only play so long. It was all to help calibrate the game time mostly.

Logging off, the character would be controlled by a bot. So if you were attacked, you would attack back. If you were on a caravan or boat, you would ride it out and auto disembark when time permits. Unless your character was tired. Then it to would find a place to sleep. No matter where.
