All the Pokémon That Can Currently Mega Evolve or Primal Evolve

When players thought Pokémon had nothing left in their trainer bag, they surprised fans with the introduction of the Mega Evolution mechanic. Once a player had acquired a Key Stone, they could then start hunting down rare Mega Stones, which allow certain Pokémon to tap into their full evolution power to unlock a new and powerful form. With nearly 900 Pokémon, only a small percentage received this new ability and fans have been wanting new Mega Evolutions ever since. In this article, we will look at some excellent candidates that are worthy of their own Mega Stone.

Rapidash

Rapidash

  • Generation: One
  • Potential Type/Types After Mega Evolving: Fire/Flying or Fire/Fairy

One of the fan-favourite fire types from generation one, fans have always felt this Pokémon could hold a third evolution. When it evolves from Ponyta to Rapidash, it turns from a pony into a flaming unicorn. This has made fans want a burning pegasus to enter the games as a new evolution. Perhaps, instead a Mega Evolution could unleash this for fans and could give this fire Pokémon a secondary type of fairy or flying in its high flying magical form.

Skarmory

Skarmory

  • Generation: Three
  • Potential Type/Types After Mega Evolving: Steel/Flying

Skarmory is often a forgotten steel type Pokémon, as the flying attribute gives it a defence against the ground type moves that work all too well on steel types. It also hold some pretty good defensive stats when trained well, so a Mega Evolution could give this metal bird a new wind to fly on. With increased stats in a Mega Form, it would suddenly become more appealing for a player to use. It worked for Pinsir, so why not Skarmory?

Meganium, Typhlosion, and Feraligatr

Meganium, Typhlosion, and Feraligatr

  • Generation: Two
  • Potential Type/Types After Mega Evolving: Meganium: Grass/Fairy, Typhlosion: Fire/Fighting, and Feraligatr: Water/Dark

There has become a buzz recently that due to the success of Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee, the next instalment of the Let's Go titles could be a remake of Pokémon Crystal. The Generation Two starters will be at the centre of a player's gameplay if this is true and offers a chance for some new Mega Stones. The first and third generation starters have already received Mega Evolutions, it seems only right the second gen guys get a turn next.

Flygon

Flygon

  • Generation: Three
  • Potential Type/Types After Mega Evolving: Dragon/Bug

It had been reported that Flygon was planned to earn a Mega Stone in the remake games, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. If the reports were true, this means there could be some early designs for this Mega Form already in existence. If Flygon were to finally earn his Mega Evolution, they need to alter his ground type attribute for bug type. The Pokémon has always resembled a Dragonfly and making it a bug type would result in the first Dragon/Bug hybrid Pokémon.

Beautifly and Dustox

Beautifly and Dustox

  • Generation: Three
  • Potential Type/Types After Mega Evolving: Beautifly: Bug/Fairy and Dustox: Bug/Dark

This pair is pretty well known thanks to the anime, as both were paired with the characters May and Jessie. They have been the personification of beautiful and ugly in the games and every fan has one they prefer over the other. However, their low stats and easy weaknesses make them unlikely for players to use in games. The Mega Evolutions did bring Pokémon often left on the bench into battle. This pair could easily benefit from a Mega Stone and find new love from players.

Arbok and Weezing

Arbok and Weezing

  • Generation: One
  • Potential Type/Types After Mega Evolving: Arbok: Poison/Dark and Weezing: Poison/Flying

The OG duo owned by Jessie and James have been screaming for something to bring them back into the spotlight once again. If they were to Mega Evolve, they could gain secondary types and bring new advantages to having them on a team in for a Pokémon battle. Fans have also wanted Team Rocket's original pair to return in the anime for a long time. A Mega Evolution could be one reason to return them to showcase their new forms to viewers.

Xerneas and Yveltal

Xerneas & Yvetal

  • Generation: Six
  • Potential Type/Types After Primal Evolving: Xerneas: Fairy and Yveltal: Dark

The Pokémon of life and death almost require a Primal Evolution to debut in the games. Considering Kyogre and Groudon are, at present, the only Pokémon with this rare form of evolution, being the Pokémon that made the land and sea, you would this the pair to also be worthy. Like Kyogre and Groundon, this duo need not gain new type attributes, it would simply be a way to take their power levels to a level that will require strategy to defeat. The forms could also give Yveltal the ability to take a small portion of HP away from an opponent and Xernas restore a small portion of HP after every turn. This would further reinstate their abilities of life and death.

Lapras

Lapras

  • Generation: One
  • Potential Type/Types After Mega Evolving: Water/Ice

A fan favourite from generation one, Lapras is a Pokémon fans have wanted to earn a pre-evolution and a Mega Evolution for literally generations. It has always been a strong and powerful Pokémon to have on a team, but players often avoid using one throughout the main gameplay as you do not gain the fun of a new evolution on your Pokémon journey. Giving Lapras a Mega Stone would mean players would be able to look forward to the moment they can take this Pokémon to a new battle strength.

Raikou, Entei, and Suicune

Raikou, Entei, and Suicune

  • Generation: Two
  • Potential Type/Types After Mega Evolving: Raikou: Electric/Dark, Entei: Fire/Rock, and Suicune: Water/Ice

Not many Legendary Pokémon can actually Mega Evolve, and these Legendary Beasts seem like the ones who should earn Mega Stones next. The benefit behind this would be to give them secondary types and finally end the arguments fans have been having on them simply being powered up versions of Jolteon, Flareon, and Vaporeon. With the secondary types and increased strength, it could result in a resurrection of these Pokémon being used more by fans, similar to how Ho-oh resurrected the three Pokémon that perished in the fires to create Raikou, Entei, and Suicune.

Dialga and Palkia

Dialga and Palkia

  • Generation: Four
  • Potential Type/Types After Primal Evolving: Dialga: Dragon/Steel and Palkia: Dragon/Water

Much like Xerneas and Yveltal, this pair deserves a Primal Evolution. They are the Pokémon of Time and Space and were primal ingredients in the creation of the Pokémon universe. With such power and millennia having passed since the dawn of time and space, you could easily imagine how these forms are powered down versions of what they once were. With Giratina, the third Dragon, already having an Origin Forme, the games could make a discovery that the Origin Forme is actually Giratina's Primal Evolution. This would make it so this trio are also all able to Primal Evolve and why they were crucial in creating all of the universe.
