Our FireRed Journey [3]

From here on out, all of my game playthrough blogs will have the same title, with [x] to denote what part of the playthrough blog it is. Anywho, onto the game.

The Journey

Should I try incorporating Poke-puns into my blogs? Perhaps not, I Sudowoodo'nt do that to you! ...I am going to pretend that everyone who read that last sentence found it hilarious.

Time for some more Pokemon! To backtrack a bit, when I last wrote on our journey, our trainer was making his way through Mt. Moon! The first wild encounter in the cave is a Zubat... no new team members will be joining here!

Don't forget, we are playing by Nuzlocke Rules here! Mt. Moon itself is otherwise not an issue for us. As I said before, we brute force our way through the trainers in the cave, gathering experience for our recently acquired Nidoran(M). The end of the cave rewards us with the Helix Fossil (more on that later), and with that we move on to Route 4!

Sweet fresh air! A short distance away from the exit of the cave and we meet 2 Karate Trainers (or whatever they're called). They are actually the first move tutor's that we will run into on this journey. The one on the left will teach the move Mega Punch, and the left will teach Mega Kick. We award Mega Punch on our new Wartortle. Mega Kick will be left alone for now. The first encounter for Route 4 is an Ekans... Which I did actually decide to capture due to its Intimidate Ability, but Mankey was too much man for the poor snake.

Running through Cerulean, and powering through the Nugget Bridge, Nidoran(M) evolves into Nidorino! Finally, I can stop typing "(M)"!! The Nugget Bridge and Route 24 are really only here to help our team make up for the massive difficulty difference between the Pewter City and Cerulean City Gyms.

(Side note, look how adorable Bill is as a Clefairy!)

Brock's Rock Pokemon are cursed with poor stats and easy weakness to take advantage of. Misty is a totally different story. Staryu is not too much of an issue, but Starmie is a cream of the crop Pokemon. In competitive play, Starmie has been in OU since it first show up in the first generation of Pokemon. OU stands for Overly Used, since it is used on a massive number of teams in competition. Starmie is such a good choice, that it only dropped from OU in the SEVENTH generation of Pokemon, Sun and Moon.

In this particular part of our story, it is a total beast to deal with. At lvl 21, for some ungodly reason, it knows Water Pulse AND Recover! Why did they give a Pokemon the ability to heal in the Second Gym!?? Normally this would be an issue, since our team does not currently have an Electric or Grass type move to take advantage of. BUT, Starmie is also part Psychic and Psychic has a weakness to Dark. What move does our Wartortle happen to pick up at lvl 19? Bite! Remember how I said that Game Freak always gives us a solution?

Well! Misty was far easier than I expected. Mankey tookout Staryu with a single Karate Chop, and Starmie took 3 Bites from Wartortle before falling... On to the next one!

On To Vermillion City

The trip to Vermillion CIty is a tough one. We run south, down through Route 5. Catch a Meowth as part of Nuzlocke. Beeline down the Underground path. Beat a couple trainers on Route 6.... And we have arrived in Vermillion!

Long trip huh? Now that we're here, we have a BUNCH of tasks to check off.

-Grab the Bike Voucher from the Pokemon Fan Club Pres.

-Catch a totally unexpected Pokemon in the Diglett Tunnel

-Grind through the S.S.Anne for Cut

-Beat Lt. Surge for the Thunder Badge

-Profit

I was kidding about the long list. Steps 1 and 2 are already done! It takes maybe 10 secs to grab a Bike Voucher, and probably just that long from entering Diglett Tunnel until you inevitably meet a Diglett *gasp!*

Step 3! The S.S.Anne

Now, this is actually the long part... Which is why it's going in the next blog!

Here is where we part ways. Until next time!

See'ya!
