NODWIN Gaming, Samay Raina, and ChessBase India have joined forces to establish the Chess Super League, a new online chess league (CSL).

The inaugural season of the Chess Super League will take place from 11 October to 17 October 2021, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., and will include six elite grandmasters from across the world – six top men and women players from India, and six top Indian junior boys and girls. The six teams of six players each will provide spectators with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness players compete for a prize fund of Rs 40 lakh.

Teams will be spearheaded by franchise owners

The teams will be led by franchise owners who will support and represent their team in the Chess Super League. Tanmay Bhat, Raftaar (Kalamkaar), Zakir Khan, MortaL (S8ul), Biswa Kalyan Rath, and Shreyas Srinivasan are among the franchise owners of the first edition (PayTM Insider CEO).

These franchise owners will serve as ambassadors and torchbearers for their clubs around the league.

Grandmasters such as Ding Liren, Hikaru Nakamura, Anish Giri, Teimour Radjabov, Hou Yifan, Muzychuk sisters, Nana Dzagnidze, Alexandra Kosteniuk, Vidit Gujrathi, Sasikiran Krishnan, Koneru Humpy, Dronavalli Harika, Tania Sachdev, and others will compete in this league, as will young grandmasters such as Gukesh,

The league will be aired on Samay's YouTube channel, with hosts and commentators including ChessBase India CEO Sagar Shah and Raina. In early 2020, Shah and Raina began streaming chess together. Their streams have had over 650 million views to date, with the goal of being understood and appreciated by both amateurs and pros.

Raina enjoyed streaming chess with Sagar

Raina stated that he has enjoyed broadcasting chess with Sagar and considers himself to be extremely fortunate to have some of the finest players in the world play chess on his channel and the best followers in the world watching them having fun week after week. The natural next step is to establish a league including some of the greatest talent from India and throughout the world, and he couldn't be happier to be able to do so today. Fans will appreciate the competitive nature of what they have planned, as well as the excitement of watching high-quality chess alongside them.

According to Shah, Indian chess is on the rise, and experts all over the world have labeled India the future chess powerhouse. They have a lot of good players and a lot of youthful promise. This internet competition would provide greater exposure and opportunities for Indian athletes, particularly young ones. ChessBase India has worked hard to promote chess in India since its establishment, and this online league is a step in the right direction.

Chess Super League is the first product they are unveiling following the acquisition of OML's gaming company, and it is proof that gaming, eSports, and comedy have tremendous synergy and will come together in a major manner. According to NODWIN Gaming managing director Akshat Rathee, it is a sample of much similar collaboration amongst various types of gaming entertainment that the world will experience.

NODWIN Gaming, an autonomous subsidiary of Nazara Technologies, recently made headlines for acquiring media and entertainment firm OML Entertainment's gaming and related intellectual property business for Rs 73 crore.
