Nintendo Gave Us A Huge Zelda Reveal At E3

After 30 years of the Zelda franchise, Nintendo, you sure know how to keep us hooked. If the E3 conference is anything to go by, then the upcoming Zelda game could be an instant classic in the making. From horseback attacks, to cooking and gliding, it looks like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a fan's most epic outing yet.

Bigger is better.

The trailer gives us some beautiful backdrops and vibrant greens, reminiscent of Ocarina of Time's Hyrule Field. A voice, that we guess is Zelda, welcomes Link back, telling him "open your eyes." Link is back in the saddle as he rides off into the distance on his horse, which was confirmed back in 2014 is the classic character Epona! These days Links can launch off horseback and enter 'bullet time' to take better aim at enemies.

Nintendo of America's president and Chief Operating Officer, Reggie Fils-Aime, has called Breath of the Wild "an entirely new format for a Zelda game". The trailer certainly looks more expansive than previous outings, channelling an open world feel, in what is clearly going to be the largest Zelda game to date. We are thinking The Witcher, crossed with The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. It also looks like Nintendo has ditched the hyper-realistic tone of Twilight Princess and returned to a slightly more cell-shaded look.

Save the planet!

Link is at one with nature - cooking mushrooms, chopping down trees, starting bush fires and dropping boulders on his enemies; new Link is Ranger Smith's worst nightmare! We see more wild horses, quacking ducks and leaping stags, which once again reaffirms that despite his outfit changes, Link will be 'going green' next year. As well as dropping beehives on your enemies (Winnie-the-Pooh), the game also introduces us to a new Assassin's Creed-style of climbing, which is sure to beat those N64 days of scrolling for your hookshot!

Dark Times Ahead

We see ruins, grand castles and open plains on a scale that would be more at home on Game of Thrones. Midway through the trailer, there is a jittery cut-scene, and the addition of thunderstorms and distant clouds gathering over mountain tops. It proves that it won't just be foraging and nature walks for long. We are guessing that it is about long-time foe Ganondorf rears his red hair again. Even as the 19th game in the main series, it doesn't look like Nintendo is running out of ideas any time soon!

Ocarina of time or spirit tracks?

We are sure that Breath of the Wild will be one game to clock up some serious hours on, but will we ever again reach the dizzying heights of Ocarina of Time? We hope that it isn't a case of style over substance! Originally scheduled for a 2015 release, it looks like our patience may have paid off! The LONG awaited Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will eventually drop in 2017 on the Wii U and the mysterious new NX (we still haven't a clue).
