Welcome To The World Of Conker's Bad Fur Day!

We all love a bit of nostalgia, right?! Let's take a trip down memory lane and revisit the truly original Conker!

Action Platform Video Game Intro…

Are you already aware of this video game? Or is this one (shock horror!) you wouldn't know from the man in the moon?! Well, either way, let me take you to the world of Conker's Bad Fur Day! The ultimate classic Conker's Bad Fur Day, the action platform video game, which was released for the Nintendo 64 console in 2001, which has a huge cult following. It was developed by Rare, and designed especially for mature audiences, this game really is so original and unique! Believe me, there really is no other game quite like it, and that's an understatement! How much do you know about the game? Here are the Top 10 pieces of information on this highly original game…

Who Is Conker?

Okay, let us begin… If you aren't familiar with the game, you may be thinking who the heck is Conker? Right, Conker is a heavy drinking blue eyed red squirrel (yeah, seriously!) who is trying to get home to his girlfriend, Berri, after a heavy night out on the booze. Uh oh!

But Conker the little rascal is lost, and he has to find his way home with many challenges ahead, including gathering objects, solving puzzles, and he even has the odd punch up with enemies! Yeah, it is not an easy journey home! Be prepared, in Conker's journey through the game anything could happen! And it does! There are shocks and giggles a plenty! You'll be laughing out loud, and very often!

This Was Originally A Family Game!

You may be surprised to learn that Conker's Bad Fur Day was originally intended for a family audience, if you are familiar with the game this may rather shock you?! Yeah, me too!! However during its previews, the game was criticised for being too cute, and just too similar to Rare's previous platform games. It was just not new and original enough.

So it was back to the drawing board, and the beloved game became what we know, and love, today. On release the game received critical acclaim from gaming journalists, and it was praised for its uniqueness and originality. Having gone back to the drawing board, the time spent was well worth it, and the game achieved what was wanted by gamers and journalists alike, great satisfaction and a huge success. Yippee!

The Guys Behind The Nintendo 64 Classic…

The game is a Nintendo 64 Classic, if it is your taste then the game's humour is hilarious! Conker is one greedy, moody, foul mouthed squirrel, and you can expect violence a plenty, plus alcohol and tobacco use, oh, and much, much, much vulgarness! There is nothing serious about it though, it's purely tongue-in-cheek fun, and so entertaining. It's all for a good old laugh!

Who were the guys behind the game I hear you say?! The brains! Well, I shall tell you now, it was directed by Chris Seavor, and written by Chris Seavor and Robin Beanland. Robin Beanland was also the composer. This beauty of a game was developed over four years.

Clockwork Orange Opening Scene

The opening scene of the game is extremely similar to that of the Cult classic film A Clockwork Orange. Where we see Conker, in a very bad mood, he says he is now, "King of all the land" and he begins to tell the player his story. The story of a 'Bad Fur Day.'

The game then starts with Conker hungover, very worse for wear after a night of binge drinking in the bar Cock and Plucker, in a land Conker is unfamiliar with. The game draws you in immediately, it is extremely well done, and makes you want to discover more from the word go!

Full Of Many Film Parodies

Who does not love a film parody?! Don't we all?! Of course we do!! Well this game is full of fantastic parodies (wahoo!) of various films including Reservoir Dogs, Star Wars, Terminator, Jaws and The Wizard Of Oz, which are extremely entertaining, and are certain to put a smile on your face! Movie buffs especially will love this element to the game! I know I do!

It is great spotting each of the film parodies as you play your way through the game, when I played the game I particularly loved the Jaws parody! But all of them are so good, that you'll probably love them all! Particularly for all you Star Wars fans out there, which I know are many, I am sure you'll love the Star Wars parody!

I don't want to give too many of these film parodies away and spoil the fun for you all, so best thing to do? Discover them for yourself, play the game, you won't regret it!

No, Not Conker's First Appearance!

But this was not the first game the hilariously entertaining Conker appeared in, oh no, this was not his debut, darling! He made his debut appearance in Diddy Kong Racing, yet his full character and personality were never fully explored and discovered until Conker's Bad Fur Day. Here you get to know our red squirrel friend very well indeed!

Conker's Bad Fur Day also features a multiplayer mode with a maximum of four players competing. Which is a bonus for gamers with a competitive streak. The multiplayer mode received a big thumbs up from gamers!

This Squirrel Can Drink!

Yep, you'll quickly discover Conker loves a drink, and believe me that squirrel can drink! He’d drink Oliver Reed under the table! Seriously!! Oh, and of course we would all love an immediate cure to wipe out a hangover! Right?! Well our beloved Conker has this covered! To wipe out hangovers, he can drink Alka Seltzer, and to regain lost health, Conker can eat pieces of 'Anti-Gravity' chocolate. If only that could really happen for us all!!

But in the real world what an awesome drinking partner Conker would be?! He'd soon sort any hangover out for you! You'd have a great night out on the booze, and still be in the office, 9am sharp, fresh as a daisy, bright eyed and bushy tailed! Ha ha!

Ruler Of The Land

The Ruler of the land which Conker is lost in, is the Panther King, who can't keep his milk on his table due to a table leg being missing. Professor von Kripplespac, Panther King's assistant, comes to the conclusion that a red squirrel would make the perfect leg for the table; the hunt for Conker is on!

You couldn't make it up! Conker is wanted for a leg for a table! The wackiness and plain bonkerness of the story of this game is what makes it stand out for its pure originality. I mean, what were these guys on when they came up with this story for the game?! Well whatever it was, it worked! And, heck, I want some too…

The Fab Four The Beatles

We all love a Beatles cameo, right?! John, Paul, George and Ringo, turning up with their fabulous Liverpool accents and dry sense of humour. Setting up their instruments and blasting out “She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah…” Well fear not, the Scousers appear, kind of… The scouse talking dung beetles are a nod to our beloved fab four, and they are very amusing with their Northern humour! Which I personally think is one of the best humours around!

I can't not mention the Great Mighty Poo (and yes, he is what the name suggests, a piece of poo! No... seriously!) who keeps his lovely grin by eating sweet corn. It is worth playing the game just to see the Great Mighty Poo! If you don't know the song which the Great Mighty Poo sings, then may I suggest you watch it on YouTube?! It really is not to be missed, in fact it should be mandatory listening! But, be warned, once you have listened to this song, you will be singing it to yourself all day long, and possibly for the next several days also, plus you'll be telling everyone to listen to the song too, as it is, frankly, just so darn cool!

Humour Is The Key!

As I have mentioned, if it's your sense of humour, this game will have you in stitches. Mature humour is a key element, it's definitely one for adults only, even though the graphics look aimed at children with its colourful settings. But that just adds to the game's humour, it is bizarre seeing something so innocent looking, being so erm… adultish!!

I am definitely a Conker's fan then, now and forever, it's a game I could never get tired of playing. It's just uplifting, pure funny entertainment. Where really the main point of this game is for fun, for fun only, and for fun alone! It is meant to be comical, it is meant to make you laugh! We need more of this in our world! To me Conker's Bad Fur Day is in a league of its own and, then and to this very day I have never come across a game like it!
