More Like 'Dark Souls'

Another in the "why not do these?" series

I know many of you are aware of the Dark Souls series, as well as Nioh and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. But what about other Dark Souls style games? We already have two of them take placed in Warring States Era Japan and the series itself has a medieval like setting.

So, let's see where else we can put a Dark Souls style game.

Weird Western

There is the weird western, Undead Redemption 2 coming soon to gaming fans everywhere, but I still think that more should be worked on with the concept of weird westerns.

The character could be a wrongfully convicted person back from the dead to seek revenge on those who wronged them or even a lawman who was killed in the line of duty and comes back from the dead to enforce a different brand of justice.

I put this here because frankly, I love westerns sometimes and playing a Dark Souls style game where you can ride upon a horse and slay evil with a Colt Single Action Army, a stick of dynamite or even a Tomahawk.

Ancient Greece

I am not taking about Classical Antiquity like Assassins Creed: Odyessy, I am talking about a time that could precede the events following the fall of Mycenae or after, but not during events like that of Odyessy.

It could focus on the myth about how Perseus built the walls of the city or could it even focus on some other myth connected to the Ancient Greece, maybe even the Minoan civilization. It could also take place sometime after the fall of Mycenae or even leading to the rise of the Olympics.

The point is that since the God of War series no longer takes place in a Greek like setting. A Dark Souls game with an ancient Greek setting would be rather creative.

Roman Empire

Somewhere on the edges of the Roman Empire, a great evil could be awaiting to topple the empire.

The theme could be a Roman legionnaire, Centurion, or mercenary that gets caught up in a fight that could decide the fate of the Roman empire, as well as the world.

But seriously: how many games out there since Ryse: Son of Rome have had a theme that takes place during the days of the Roman empire. Who knows, the story of Romulus and Remus could wind up getting involved as part of the story.

Mongol Empire

Why not have history's most famous empire make an appearance even in a fantasy fiction setting? I mean think about it, when was the last time the Mongol horde made a video game appearance?

Like the western idea, the idea of riding upon horseback and slaying evil with bow and arrow and lance would sound like an interesting idea, even more so if you are running over the undead with a horse

It would be also interesting if Genghis Khan or anyone of his descendants were playable characters and they were having to fight the sorcery of the Song Dynasty.

Ming Dynasty

Early Ming firearms versus demons from hell and the undead? Why not? Certainly, people are sick of the Dynasty Warriors series and would like to see something else of China, something that does not have to do with 3rd century CE China? It would be interesting to see the undead slain by matchlock firearms or hand-cannons on some random demon.

Victorian England

Want to consider giving a Dark Souls style game a Steampunk angle? This one would be a good idea.

The lead character could be a Scotland yard inspector thought to be dead, yet brought back alive to fight a great war against evil or it could be where the lead character is Frankenstein's monster, seeking answers and looking for his creator, only to be dragged into a conflict that decides the fate of humanity.

Conclusion

Whether you agree with me on these ideas or not, Dark Souls has certainly made something of an impact on the gaming world. So, as I said before, why not do these?
