I do ask that you wait before playing this song.

So the other day I and someone else was watching some YouTube videos about Fallout: New Vegas when some of its Downloadable Content (DLC) videos were made some time ago, and decided to look at the videos. The channel name is Oxhorn and he does mostly narrative videos about the lore of video games, while occasionally having a drink and smoking a cigar. And in this particular DLC, it was the Dead Money DLC talking about a casino known as the Sierra Madre. It was through here I realized that someone resembled John “Jigsaw” Kramer, the antagonist of the SAW franchise.

Before we dive any deeper, there is a lot of context to go through so let’s start 200 years before the “present” event the game takes place in. A long time ago, in the Nevada Sierra Madre, a man named Frederick Sinclair was friends with a singer who went by the name Dean Domino. What Sinclair did not know was that Dean Domino had despised him. Sinclair would often display his great wealth, much to the displeasure of Dean Domino. Dean sensitive ego did not stand anyone to be better than him, real or perceived.

One day, Dean Domino had come across a young woman who wanted to go to Hollywood and become famous. Seeing a young victim; Dean took the woman, gave her the new name of Vera Keyes, and made her an actress then singer in Las Vegas. His plan: use Vera Keyes to bring down the man he had become obsessed with destroying, for nothing more than indulging his envy and greed. So Mr. Domino had introduced Sinclair to Vera Keyes, but Frederick had fallen in love with her already.

With his ambitions pushed forward, Frederick Sinclair began to build the Sierra Madre in honor of the woman he had fallen in love with, Vera Keyes, and make her the key to the whole Casino. A funny joke on his part as her she was the key to his heart, and soon to be kingdom of wealth and fortune. During the construction of the Sierra Madre Casino however, Sinclair had discovered the truth about Dean Domino plans. What he did not know was why; as Dean would turn Vera into a junkie while he supplied her addiction. Yet Sinclair knew why she was addicted, a terminal illness pushed her too far, and he let it happen Troubled by this new revelation, and the ever increasing threat of the Chinese in this game’s Sino-American War. Sinclair decided to use the Casino as both a stronghold against the Chinese invasion and a death trap for both the woman he loves, and Dean Domino.

It was at this point I realized something had happened to Frederick Sinclair, he had embodied the philosophy of the Jigsaw killer. Sinclair had learn to hate people’s vices. War, greed, envy; He wanted to to safeguard against them, and lead his enemies to their deaths. Much to the style of Jigsaw, who would challenge his victims vices in exchange for their life. Should they fail, their lives would be forfeited and die along with their vices. I then began to play some Jigsaw music, and made the connections. Frederick Sinclair had made his Casino (more specifically his vault filled with money) a death trap for people’s vices. A trap for Vera Keyes and Dean Domino.

Fast forward about 200 years and your character during this game, known only as the Courier 6, finds the Sierra Madre along with many others. Towards the end if played correctly, you can trap a man inside the vault of the Sierra Madre Casino with riches beyond measure and his vices. Once trapped, he puts out a radio transmission for you to hear, his final words spoken for you. Now is the interactive part of this article. Play the music found above at the top of the article looking like Billy, the Jigsaw puppet. Then scroll down to the bottom of the article. Play the video along with the music, it should be in sync. I do not know if this would work on smartphones, so please try on a desktop or laptop, with the video time starting at 43:55 for Dead Money. Enjoy...
