Here Are the Most Annoying Types of Online Gamers.

I share my unusual gaming experiences and opinions of these joy killers.

I can almost guarantee that most people who have played any sort of online game have come across some type of annoying player, whether they are on the opposing team or even someone on your side.

As a gamer, I’ve come across multiple annoying players on just about every online game I have played in the last decade.

I don’t understand why so many of these types of annoying people even exist. They honestly sometimes ruin the whole experience of an online game and can even demotivate some people from continuing to play.

Here are a few examples of the worst types of gamers in my opinion.

1 — Cheaters

Cheaters can be very annoying in any type of game but especially in competitive games where your performance directly contributes to your rank.

The games in which I’ve come across the most cheaters in has been FPS (First Person Shooter) games, such as Counter-Strike, Apex Legends, and Overwatch.

Cheaters usually use an aimbot in games like this which essentially means they can’t miss. This creates a massive unfair advantage which places them in a rank they don’t belong in since it’s almost impossible for a human being to have perfect aim.

The worst part of this is when these people get accused of cheating, they ridicule you for just simply being bad at the game and to “get on their level.”

Whenever I see these types of people in a game, my friends and I immediately report them so that, hopefully, they’ll be banned from playing.

2 — Verbal/Text Abusers

Not only can verbal abusers be annoying, but they can seriously affect gamers' mental health with excessive cyberbullying.

I genuinely don't understand why people like this exist since all they do is demean and insult anyone they come across. Additionally, it can be for the stupidest reason, such as simply being a kid.

Some people might say you can just turn off your voice or text chat, but the problem is that within some of these competitive online games, voice and text chat are required to communicate with your team to send and receive callouts.

I’ve come across toxicity like this in every online game I’ve played, from a simple game like Rocket League to a game with a more mature audience like New World.

Again, my friends and I always report people like this so that they hopefully get banned.

3 — Smurfs/Boosters

Before I get into this one, let me explain what a Smurf/Booster is. Smurfs are players who intentionally de-rank in a competitive game to verse players who are below their rank.

This is very common in most competitive games, but I’ve seen it the most in Rocket League. Players who can freestyle elite shots intentionally de-rank to score their “clips” on players who are unable to save the shot.

This happened to me a lot when I was slowly ranking up and became very annoyed almost every time I played.

Boosting can be seen as a form of smurfing since they are generally higher-ranked players boosting a lower ranked player/s to a higher rank using an alternative account.

The amount of times I’ve seen this happen is ridiculous. In addition to smurfing, this type of thing goes against the terms of every competitive game but somehow, there are still so many people getting away with it.

The worst part is, it can sometimes be very hard to identify a booster in some cases. So whenever I do come across one, I don’t know if I should report them or not since I’m not sure if they’re guilty or just an innocent player who are just playing at their best.

4 — Salty/Sore Losers

Salty players and sore losers can sometimes be funny, but other times can get on my nerves.

Picture this, you’re playing a competitive game and peaking during this specific session. You hit an amazing clip and celebrate with your friends. But immediately afterward, a player on the opposing team insists you’re a Smurf and threatens to report you.

This happened to me recently in Rocket League when I scored a specific freestyle goal in a competitive game for the first time. But my opponent decided I must be smurfing since they haven't seen a shot like that scored in their games before. I got reported, but of course, I didn’t get banned since I wasn’t in the wrong.

Another thing I don’t understand about these types of players is when they ridicule you for being a “Sh*t” player, even though they’re losing. They blame it on luck and usually end up leaving the game early.

I don't understand what you could gain from being such an ignorant person like this. It genuinely annoys and confuses me.

Final Words

I’m aware that some of these types of annoying players will always exist in online games, and that is an honest shame. But we need to be patient and remain calm.

Online shops need a safe space for people to enjoy themselves, compete against others, and decompress after a day full of stress. Gamers shouldn’t have to go through additional stress while playing their favorite online game.
