If you're looking for a great story, then the number one developer in terms of narrative-driven games is none other than Telltale Games. The team has recently wrapped up their take on the expansive lore behind the Batman with Batman: The Telltale Series, and it was met with widespread acclaim. With the positive feedback from critics and gamers alike, Telltale has their eyes set on a Marvel Comics property; Guardians of The Galaxy.

The game itself was announced at the 2016 Video Game Awards with the brief teaser trailer seen below.

Apart from that, we really have collected very little information, at least until recently thanks to the product page on GameStop's website. The general plot synopsis goes something like this:

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series delivers a brand new story of the universe’s unlikeliest heroes, the rag-tag band of outlaws who go by the names Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot. In the wake of an epic battle, the Guardians discover an artifact of unspeakable power. Each of the Guardians has a reason to desire this relic, as does a ruthless enemy who is the last of her kind, and who will stop at nothing to tear it from their hands. From Earth to the Milano to Knowhere and beyond, and set to the beat of awesome music, this five-part episodic series puts you in the rocket-powered boots of Star-Lord in an original Guardians adventure, told in the unique and award-winning Telltale style, where your decisions and actions will drive the path of the story you experience.

Now, that's a fairly standard description, but there are a few things that should peak your interest.

Playable Character

Right off the bat, we would assume that Star-Lord is the primary playable character, and that makes perfect sense considering that he is the main character of the universe's most unlikely heroes. The synopsis makes it seem as though Star-Lord will be the only playable character, but based off of the first sentence we know that all 5 of the outlaws will be introduced and perhaps we'll have the ability to play as each character through the various episodes.

Telltale has already given us a game that allows for character transitions in Tales from the Borderlands, so it's not that crazy of an idea to think that we may be able to play as Drax, Rocket, Groot or Gamora along with the focus on Star-Lord. Also considering the popularity of the character bouncing in the point-and-click adventure, Game of Thrones: A Telltale Series - it would make sense to allow for various characters to be playable.

The Conflict

Within the synopsis we also learn that the Guardians of the Galaxy will face off against a villain that is the last of her kind. The fact that the Marvel universe is so far-reaching means that we could see nearly any character appear as the antagonist. We could see Nebula (which would be logical with the character's connection to the films), we could see Lady Death (which would also make sense with her being the unrequited love of Thanos.

Yet almost more intriguing is the idea that the synopsis points out that each of the Guardians has their own reason for desiring the relic that they find together. So could the relic possibly hold some sort of sway over the Guardians as they interact with it?

The Setting

With the expansiveness of the Marvel Universe, we know that the Guardians of the Galaxy can go just about anywhere, and the synopsis doesn't disappoint by mentioning that the Guardians could go to Earth, the Milano, Knowhere and everywhere else. Those three points are key though as Earth is Star-Lord's home, the Milano is their ship and Knowhere is basically their new home. It seems as though we're in line for the first truly large scale adventure with many locales to explore, and that's very exciting to think about.

Then when you add in the fact that the game should be set against some of the best musical scoring ever, it's safe to imagine that we're in line for an adventure that only the Guardians could give.
