it's very 'Chrome-mantic'

On September 18th Epic released the new season of Fortnite alongside new features and additions for us to explore. So, what's happened so far? Well, as we know from Season 3, the island and loopers finally found peace and freedom on the island and it was parties all around, but this was short-lived as one by one, members of The Seven began to disappear and a new substance has been found on island that is causing quite a stir. As it grew so did the panic and now this Chrome like substance has taken over and nobody seems to know how to stop it. But let's not worry about that now! lets get started!

Battlepass

As usual, new season = new Battlpass. As you can see from the above picture, we have got wide range of skins for you to pick! so let's take a look.

  • Paradigm - Seventh member of The Seven
  • Bytes - Having a bad hair day so is looking for revenge
  • Grizz - A teddy bear with an attitude
  • Meow Skullz - Looks like the Catnip hit the spot
  • Lennox Rose - Because adding another anime skin is what we needed.
  • Twyn/ Digitized - a brother and sister combo
  • Gywn Stacey - Because having Spiderman just wasn't enough
  • The Herald - Flower Power 4 eva.

I do have my complaints about this battlepass and that it is again lacking emotes! we have 5 altogether - 2 of which require the base item in order to be used and the other 3 are nothing to shout about. We do have sprays and other additions, but how often do we actually use them? Also, the Marvel collabs are getting stale now and overused. I mean, we did have a whole season dedicated to Marvel and a few DC collabs were introduced, but if i wanted more Marvel i might as well play a Marvel game.

The one good thing i am happy about, is that it has shown a lot more originality and less recycling of skins. With The Herald being an unlockable skin in the future, just like Indiana Jones - it gives us something to look forward to.

Map changes

Some map changes have been noticed. With the new Chrome substance running rampant, it's only a matter of time before it truly takes over! Although there is only one brand new POI, the old ones have either changed name or been given a fresh new look! With the chrome having players move and fight in different ways it will be cool to see what challenges lay ahead.

New

  • Herald's sanctum - Located where The Sanctuary used to be, The Herald gives off Queen Elsa vibes with her cold, silver and intimidating environment.
  • Shimmering Shrine - These tombs and temples have been Chromed, making it hard to realize what's there and what's not.
  • Fort Jonesy - With Jonesy back in action, he has set up base here. With lots of loot and plenty of players, it won't be hard to find a fight here.
  • Lustrous Lagoon - The Pirate Blackheart has given his house a lick of Chromatic paint and is showing it off with lots of pride.

Old

  • Reality Tree- Was previously known as Reality Falls, but with the lack of Zero Point energy the tree has unfortunately died and has left a decaying forest in its wake.
  • Cloudy Condos - Just like other locations, Canyon has taken drastic measures to avoid the Chrome and has taken it upon themselves to start floating in the air with the help of hot air balloons.

Weapons

Not much has happened in the terms of weapons this season. Only 2 new guns and the unvaulting of others.

New

EvoChrome weapons

The new EvoChrome weapons are very different to what we have had before. Coming in the form of a Shotgun and an AR - these new weapons start in Common rarity, but the more damage they do, the higher the rarity they become. You could start off with a Green EvoChrome and by the end of the match it will have fully upgraded to a gold. With good accuracy and starting damage these have already become a new favourite.

Chrome Splash

This new addition is by far my favourite! This transforms the player into a blob of Chrome and allows them to move and swim faster. It allows the player to phase through walls that are made of Chrome with ease! Also, the movement animation is hilarious! Lasting on average of about 45 seconds, this is something you want in your loot pile.

Port - a - Bunker

This is also a nice addition. Unlike the Port - a - fort and fortress that came before it, this provides the player with a little bunker with doors, windows and tires to bounce away, it is also made out of a sturdy material and help the player feel more secure when out in the open, especially in no build mode.

Old

This is a list of the unvaulted weapons that have made a return

  • Rapid Fire SMG (All Rarities)
  • Lever Action Shotgun (All Rarities)
  • Surpressed SMG (Now comes in Purple and Gold)
  • Hunter Bolt Action Sniper (Blue and higher rarities)
  • Chilli Chug Splash

Vaulted

  • Two Shot Shotgun
  • Auto Shotgun
  • Heavy Sniper
  • Grapple Glove
  • Sriker Pump Shotgun
  • Burst Assult Rifle
  • Stinger SMG

Mythic

So far only one Mythic weapon is known and that is the Mythic EvoChrome AR, and this can be found in the Herald's Sanctum and in order to get it, the players must eliminate The Herald.

Even though a lot of the old favourites have made a return and the new additions are worth the time, the weapon pile is lacking ARs, with only 2 to choose from, it does limit us.

Other Features

Vault Keys

Am i thankful for these keys? Yes. And here is why! The vaults located on the island hold a vast amount of loot and it's something that every player dreams of opening, but you could only open them if your teammates were there with you to open the door. If you were a soloist (like me) you could hardly ever open the vault and they were practically useless to have on the map! But now, thanks to these keys, whether you are solo or in a team, just locate one of these keys in a chest or floor loot and that sweet vault is all yours! Of course, it is random, and you do find them out of luck, but it's nice to finally be able to open that door!

Sliding Kicks

Since sliding was first introduced into the game in Chapter 3 Season 2, it has become a popular way to move around the map, Epic have upgraded it so now, if you were to slide into someone or something, with enough force you could knock them away! this is perfect if you want to knock someone of high ground but don't want to lose ammo or destroy builds!

Phasing through Chrome Walls

While in the Chrome state or not, you can phase through certain walls. These walls have to be made of Chrome in order to walk through, it is a slow process, but it's worth it when you slide through and surprise someone with a shotgun shell to the head.

Overall Rating

This new season is fun, exciting and provides players with brand new challenges and locations to explore. Despite the lack of Emotes and ARs it does have a certain charm about it. No doubt this season will be eventful and hopefully in the future this season will have a live event, unlike the previous 2. We will just have to wait and see, but what we do know, is that this season is unlike anything we have seen before.

See you all next time, stay Vibin' and Survin'
