'Destiny 2' Won't Run at 60 FPS on Project Scorpio or PlayStation 4 Pro

Bungie has come forth today to announce that their upcoming title, 'Destiny 2,' will not be reaching out for the targeted 60fps at 1080p as we had originally hoped.

If you've been able to keep up with the upcoming Bungie title #Destiny2, you by now know it has already been announced that the game will be taking full support of both Project Scorpio and the PlayStation 4 Pro. However, it's not taking advantage in the way you nor myself would have expected in the least. While the trailers and teasers have certainly given us an amazing glimpse at the upcoming title, there's no doubt that what you are about to hear, is the very last thing you wish to hear at that.

Bungie has come forth today to announce that their upcoming title, Destiny 2 will not be reaching out for the targeted 60fps at 1080p as we had originally hoped. Instead, the company has announced something a bit more painful that will leave you reeling in metaphorical agony: 30fps at 1080p and 4K on both Scorpio and PlayStation 4 Pro.

Destiny 2 Will be Gorgeous, but the FPS on Consoles Will be Troubling

While many of you are wondering where PC will stand in this performance race, you'll have no doubt that you'll enjoy both ultra HD graphics for beautiful visuals, but you will also get one thing consoles wont: Steady 60fps gameplay at all times. Something that it seems that consoles will not be getting the best of both worlds, despite their growth towards more powerful hardware. It's even enough that users around the internet have begun to voice their concerns over this bit on multiple websites as seen below.

Just as Eurogamer reader riceNpea suggested, why can't Bungie just allow gamers to toggle between performance and resolution? #Nioh did it and succeeded quite well. If it's because of PvP, this is something we should be able to have an option of as PC users should find themselves on even playing grounds across the board. If it's truly because Bungie feels the hardware can't handle it because of "the CPU side", Bungie may need to spend a bit of time optimizing for those "Destiny's simulation" side of things as stated by Luke Smith. You can see his comment in full down below.

"I mean, I'm going to wade into this, and you [Mark Noseworthy] can flesh it out. The console, the PS4 Pro is super powerful, but it couldn't run our game at 60. Our game's this rich physics simulation where collision of players, networking, etc, and like, it wouldn't run... [there's] not enough horsepower there."

While he certainly tries to hit the nail right on the head, it seems that Bungie has missed just a tad bit. How is it Destiny is too much for the PlayStation 4 Pro and Scorpio? PlayStation 4 Pro managed to handle #Battlefield1 and its 64 person matches at 1080p at 60fps quite well. Lets also not forget that #Halo5 managed to be handle quite well at 60fps on Xbox One for the past two years without any hiccups or compromises. Then only to be told that Destiny and its 'magic' can't handle the game (you can see the statement down below), it's quite staggering to learn of this news.

While we are all used to seeing the robust amount of effects, the enhanced AI's, physically simulated vehicles, characters, and the likes. Destiny 2 seems to be coming short with pushing both the Scorpio and PlayStation 4 Pro from their limits. Hell, even the smash-hit title Horizon: Zero Dawn seemed to come close to being able to pull this off as well without any problems. We can only hope that Bungie thinks this one through a bit more before the games release.

"But there's tons of GPU power in the PS4 Pro. That's why we're doing 4K, right? It's on the CPU side. Destiny's simulation, like we have more AI, more monsters in an environment with physically simulated vehicles and characters and projectiles, and it's part of the Destiny magic, like that, like 30 seconds of fun, like coming around a corner and throwing a grenade, popping a guy in the head, and then you add like five, six, seven other players in a public event; that is incredibly intensive for hardware." - Mark Noseworthy

If you're wanting to hit the 60fps mark at 1080p or 4k, PC may be your best bet, especially if you are planning on enjoying the game at its fullest potential.

While some of us may grow disgruntled at this fact, lets be honest here, if we cut through all the sh*t we are going to say, we all know we're getting the game. The Cayde-6 teaser, the reveal trailer, and even the newly released gameplay trailer all have us curious about what Destiny 2 will be like. Even at 30fps, we all know there will be sparrows rushing across what is left of The Tower, The City, and the lands around them. We all can also remain quite content with knowing that our enjoyability shouldn't be stunted by the hardware capabilities that Bungie has been put into question.

While 4K at 60fps seems questionable for us all, lets just remember: Destiny 2 promises to be bigger, badder, and better than ever before.
