Ever since my girlfriend told me about her experience playing Dead by Daylight (a.k.a. DBD), I’ve been intrigued. Something about the violence and teamwork required by survivors to make it out alive excites me.

Dead by Daylight is an asymmetrical multiplayer (4vs1) horror game where one player takes on the role of the savage Killer, and the other four players play as Survivors, trying to escape the Killer and avoid being caught and killed.

There are 4-man team games such as Call of Duty Zombies that require teamwork and cooperation, but no game will ever compare to DBD. It’s going to take all four of you to work together to complete these 4 steps:

  1. Power up all five generators
  2. Unhook and heal each other
  3. Open the exits
  4. Escape together

Teamwork, simply stated, is less me and more we.

Emotion #1 — Thrill

Dead by Daylight will give you a thrilling feeling in the beginning. When you spawn into the trial, you and your buddies have to instantly find the generators and start getting to work.

When you don’t know who the killer is, it’s incredibly exciting. If the killer comes close to you, your heart rate rises within the game (and in real-life), and your hide-and-go-seek instincts come in to play.

Some of the most thrilling moments in-game for me are when I’m in rundowns and then when our entire team tries running to escape through the exit or the hatch.

Useful Tip:

Utilize your items and perks because they can benefit your team. Also, remember to use an offering so that it benefits your team. Useful perks to survive alone include Empathy, Self-Care, and Spine Chill.

Emotion #2 — Anger

Nothing is worse than when the game doesn’t go your way, or your teammates don’t do what you want them to do. Teammates could be toxic by not working on generators, not unhooking teammates, or by bringing the killer into the area you’re working on.

It’s important to play with teammates you can communicate with. But at the same time, it can be toxic if you play with close friends because everyone holds each other to a high standard — especially since nobody plays to lose.

DBD brings a little stress and headache because it requires you to accomplish lots of tasks, and every game is different.

Useful Tip:

Just remain calm and either work on generators, heal/unhook teammates, or waste the killer’s time.

Emotion #3 — Sadness

Games can make you sad when they don’t go well. You may run into killers who are just so good at the game to where you can barely get any generators done — and if they have a Mori that’s even more toxic.

Every match will have its highs and lows, but it’s important for you to stay positive and work together even when things get tough. If every match was incredibly easy, then there wouldn’t really be any challenge to the game.

People want a challenge, and as with everything in life, there will be people who happen to be better than you.

Useful Tip:

Study successful players and learn all the ins and outs within the game so that you give yourself the best chance possible in escaping out alive. Avoid blaming one another so that you and your teammates can learn from prior mistakes and win the next game.

Emotion #4 — Happiness

There’s no better feeling than a 4-man escape through the exits or the hatch. At this point, the killer is most likely standing with you at the exit, just trolling around.

Throughout the game, you’ll encounter moments of happiness such as

Running away after a long escape

Unhooking a teammate and running to safety

Hitting “Great” skill checks and finishing generators quickly

The game rewards smart behavior and toxic behavior when you’re the survivor. You’ve got to be smart with the way you play, but you also want to be as much of a headache as you can towards the killer you’re facing.

Useful Tip:

Remember that it’s just a game, no matter how serious it gets. If you’re playing with friends, don’t be too hard on them, but express what your objectives are so things are getting done. Everyone wants to have a good time after all.

All You Need to Know

When choosing games to play with your friends, consider playing DBD. This game will take you on all types of journeys with your friends and complete strangers.

Every match is unique, and you’ll learn tons of lessons about running, hiding, and working together with your teammates.

If you’re looking for a game that’ll keep you intrigued for quite some time, hop onto DBD, and start playing today.
