Dataminer Unearths Gigantic Futuristic Megacity Inside The Files Of Star Citizen

Data mining is such a mood swing.

When you’re bored and have no direction in life but you have access to the gamefiles of Star Citizen Alpha 2.5 patch and a crafty knowledge about data mining, virtual discoveries like this are made. The joy in examining large levels of pre-existing databases looking for resources like maps, audio, models, textures and secrets, the utter delight of being the only one other than developer to know what future content is locked inside and the sad dejection when you realize that the uncovered items will never be used in the game - Data mining is such a mood swing.

Uploader Max, the crafty dataminer, has detected an anomaly in the system in the form of a massive 3D model of what seems to be the futuristic city of Terra Prime. Located in the planet Terra of the Terra System inside the Star Citizen Universe, Prime is the capital city built along the bayside and shares environmental similarities with Earth. According to wikia, ‘Everything in Prime was planned by the original settlers, leading to a much greater balance between nature and civilization than is found elsewhere in the Empire.’

This is not the first time fans of the space simulation game have come across Terra Prime. Early videos released by the developers showed interiors and an atrium side statue. The assets were extracted from Patch v2.5 update, vastly reconstructed, crunched back to 200MB and are available now on 3D model sharing site Sketchfab.

The details aren’t precise enough but that’s what compression does. The good news is you can interact with it thanks to his effort. Data mining has become a commonly used terminology among video gamers. Just last week, we got information about the possibility of new weapons in Battlefield 1 through a similar process. A Half-Life logo was recovered from the debris of all that procedural heap of array strings wandering around in No Man's Sky.

Star Citizen is a space sim set in a 30th-century Milky Way centered on the fictional United Empire of Earth. Right now, there isn’t much else to tell but to go back and relive the memories of Star Citizen Alpha 3.0. It was a huge moment in the Roberts Space industries’ timeline of perpetual development reports. A live demonstration of planetary landings, multiplayer space exploration and action, pirate bases, space fighting, terrain based transport modes - everything about this video is genuinely exciting. But of late, I don’t follow any news related to Star Citizen mainly because of the depressing fact that I own a very modest piece of PC hardware and I’ll never ever get to play it.

It sounds ludicrous why anybody would spend an insane amount of time on something ephemeral like this. Everyone has a craving and Max is a 3D enthusiast who just wants to keep data mining. Hungry for more information, Uploader Max realizes only data mining could quench his thirst. Max wants to be the friggin’ Shadow Broker!

Possible developments on Star Citizen will be likely announced at CitizenCon on October 9th.
