They also come in a wide variety of titles and game types. From action adventure, to combat and medieval fantasy, role playing games bring us to incredibly diverse worlds.

Instead of sorting through dozens of titles and coming away with a few duds, spare yourself the aggravation and reference this list of the best Xbox One role playing games.

So, forget the real world and take a break from life for a while, pick up one of these games and escape to another world. Sadly, these epic adventures are likely more exciting than anything you'll embark on in your real life.

Dark Souls III is one of the best classic sword combat games, and if you are a fan of the classics, it's definitely one of the best Xbox One role playing games. Fans of the series will get lost in the game's rewarding gameplay and trademark immersive graphics.

Fight your way through open worlds of knights, dragons, and giants using nothing but your shield and sword. Although it's a fantasy world, the combat is more on the realistic side, making it more challenging for all gamers.

Child of Light is one of the best turn-based games, so it's perfect if you've got a bunch of friends or happen to have company over. Turn-based games are increasingly rare these days, but that doesn't hold back Child of Light from being one of the best Xbox One role playing games.

The battles are mostly menu based and their is plenty of strategy involved. The central story is about a princess named Aurora who is transported to a land where an evil villain has stolen the stars, sun and moon. As a player, you're tasked with the mission to help the character revive the light and find her way home.

Fallout 4 takes place in a post apocalyptic future where, after nuclear war destroyed the world, your character wakes up from cryogenic sleep to find his partner killed and his son murdered. It's a great premise, easily one of the best Xbox One role playing games.

Ir's an action RPG shooter that features a real-time combat system that has been thrilling gamers throughout the series' long run. As you play, you rack up plenty of perks, as long as you keep your kill count high.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is not only one of the best sci-fi shooter games, it's also one of the best Xbox One role playing games ever. It works great with multiple players, and features an advanced four player split-screen.

It comes with hundreds of hours of gameplay as you fight back against the evil Hyperion corporation, all while trying to discover ancient alien vaults that are rumored to be full of treasure

In Final Fantasy Type-0 you play as a group of 14 students from one of those countries who are tasked with using their unique magical abilities to bring order back to the world. It's a legendary video game series, and this edition is one of the best Xbox one role playing games. Since it's a few years old by now, it's one of the better RPG games on a budget.

You are free to roam around the open world as you battle enemies with all sorts of abilities. There are so many missions to choose from, leading to a ton of variety to the combat encounters and a more satisfying user experience.

As far as role playing strategy games go, Wasteland 2: Director's Cut is one of the most rewarding. Taking place in a post apocalyptic wasteland version of the Western US, Wasteland 2: Director's Cut is a strategy RPG about a group of rangers tasked with protecting raiders from alien monsters — a rare western sci-fi RPG hybrid.

You are free to roam most of the world, and because it's a strategy game, there is a crazy amount of data involved. There are hundreds of perks, abilities, and weapons in one of the best Xbox One role playing games around.

Farming Simulator 15 is just what it sounds like: A simulation RPG where you have to manage a farm. You start off as a small time farmer, and hopefully, you work your way up to a big time farmer with combines and large tractors.

It doesn't sound like the most exciting entry on this list of best Xbox One role playing games, but I promise, once you enter the world, you'll find it highly addicting. It's one of the best ways to enjoy RPG on a budget.

Winner of more than 200 Game of the Year Awards, the Skyrim series is a hit of epic proportions. The massive worlds are iconic, and the earlier versions set the new standard for strategy based role playing games.

The Vampire Lord Harkon has returned to power. He plans on using the Elder Scrolls to do the unthinkable — to kill the sun itself. Will you join the Dawnguard and fight to stop him? You certainly should, as it's one of the best Xbox One role playing games of all time.

Battle the demonic hordes of Diablo III in one of the best Xbox One role playing games in recent years. Join the crusade and take up arms against the enemies of the mortal realms in this action packed RPG.

You are humanity's last hope against the evil that is coming its way. In the game you can also hunt bounties and team up with wizards to fight back against evil. The open world is also impressively large, and it offers hundreds of hours of gameplay.
