Aston Martin are “ playing in the titleholders League ” now – Alonso

Fernando Alonso says Aston Martin are now contending “in the titleholders League” as they head into the alternate half of the 2023 season.

Aston Martin presently sit third in the constructors’ crown with ten rounds of the season remaining. Alonso is third in the motorists’ standings behind the two Red Bull motorists.

Alonso reached the tribune six times over the opening eight rounds but Aston Martin have fallen behind rivals Mercedes, Ferrari and indeed McLaren in recent races. He says the target for the alternate half of the season is to recover some of that competitiveness.

It was unexpected, in a way, how competitive the team was from the first race, ” Alonso said. “We set up ourselves in a truly strong position, so we maximized every occasion in the first numerous races.

“In the last many events, we were perhaps not as competitive as the first part of the time, but we still scored points in every single weekend. Now in the alternate part of the time, I suppose we want to go back to a more competitive position. I suppose everything is so tight now behind Red Bull with Mercedes, Ferrari, Aston Martin, McLaren – so we want to be in that fight until Abu Dhabi. And that’s the end.”

Alonso says Aston Martin are facing their topmost ever challenge as a platoon being in contention at the sharp end of the grid and now find themselves fighting against the veritably stylish.

“I suppose it was a surprise for us that the auto was presto, but I suppose the platoon was outstanding over the downtime, understanding what the problems were last time, ” he said.I suppose trust capability, strategy – everything – we did goods really good in ultimate of the races to get those results.

“It’s not only the pace of the auto, you need to master everything in the weekend from free practice one until Sunday. I suppose we're like playing in the titleholders League at the moment and we're chancing ourselves with the very top brigades, trying to develop as well as off track. This is going to be the biggest challenge for Aston Martin now. ”

Aston Martin will introduce further new corridor for their auto this weekend at Zandvoort. Asked what he hopes will be the impact from his platoon’s rearmost upgrades, Alonso said his platoon stopgap to “get a clear direction” on their unborn development path.

“Not only for this time but also for coming time, in terms of direction on the auto, ” he explained.

“ I suppose in Canada we brought some some new corridor, as well as Silverstone, and now these new aerodynamic corridor that we bring then, hopefully are performing as we anticipate.

Fernando Alonso has now announced Aston Martin's participation in the "Champions League." Whether the goal has been achieved or not, Alonso was eager to praise his team for their efforts, which led to a significant improvement in performance in F1 2023. However, he also highlighted that the AMR23's pace is not sufficient to deliver results like his own. In Monaco and Canada GPs, Alonso completed P2 twice.

Alonso drew a parallel between Aston Martin's rise and competition among teams in the Champions League, a football/soccer competition that presents Europe's top football teams against each other.

"It feels like Formula 1 is changing so rapidly," Alonso said when asked how he manages to regain form in the early season. "I think it was surprising for us that the car was fast, but I believe the team has performed exceptionally well during the winter, understanding the issues we had last year."

"I think credibility, everything, strategy, we've done good work in most of the sessions to actually get those results," he added.
