Are Videogame Fans Too Critical of Video Game Movie Adaptations?

I have been hearing so much criticism from the new Resident Evil film coming out this coming Friday, and I don't understand why videogame fans are being so harsh with a film that hasn't even come out yet. This always happens, whenever a director decides to tackle a popular videogame to turn into a movie later. I have noticed a couple of minor differences for the new Resident Evil movie, and so far, I think it has a lot of potential.

For me, as long as the atmosphere of the game is perfectly captured, I'm going to be completely fine with the film.

And of course, the story better be good, because that is always top tier for me with every film I watch in general.

One movie that faced harsh criticism from fans was the very first Silent Hill movie. I understand the judgement with the next two films, but the first film perfectly encapsulates the atmosphere of Silent Hill from the games. Silent Hill is a small, cursed town filled with fog and monsters, as the person who ends up here must face their demons in order to escape from this nightmare. The first Silent Hill movie felt so dreadful, and the monsters were absolutely terrifying to behold on screen, making it a worthy adaptation in the videogame/movie world.

The first movie faced a lot of backlashes from fans, because it was way too different from the game. The movie was apparently based on the first two games, and it combined both stories into one movie. Personally, I didn't mind the idea, it still felt like its own story, and it used the monsters and the creepy environment in a way that left me very satisfied.

I think that is what this new Resident Evil movie is trying to aim for.

From the trailer alone, it already looks like it's going to be a different story compared to the Resident Evil stories we videogame fans are already familiar with. We are going to be following a random guy who goes to Raccoon city to deliver something important, but of course, we all know what is waiting for this poor dude once he arrives.

He finds himself trying to survive against zombies, zombie mutations, and maybe even people could be a danger to this young man.

Overall, I think this movie is going to be pretty good, much better than the other Resident Evil movies we got a while back.

I think it's a genius idea that the movie is going to be focusing on a stranger, because aiming for the main cast that everyone loves from the games could be a bad idea. I feel that this would have caused a lot of mixed reviews, because a lot of people would have been overly critical of the cast that would have been selected to play everyone's favorite characters.

I'm totally fine with this, because I love it when a character doesn't know how to fight, and yes, Jill, Carlos, Leon, and Claire struggled in Raccoon City too, but we were already familiar with the crew, and we know that they all become the greatest fighters in the world later.

In this movie, we have no idea what could become of this random guy, and it's already a very intriguing plot.

And yes, there are already a lot of minor differences in the movie.

• It is snowing in the city, but it never did in the games.

• People were also complaining that the city looks super empty, but to be fair, a lot of people were already dead by a certain point in the game.

Videogame fans are starting to get annoying again whenever a new videogame adaptation comes along, and I just wish they would first give the film a chance before going after the film in such a negative light.

I'm planning to give Resident Evil a watch this weekend, and I'm sure it's going to be a worthy adaptation.
