Make sure to get these custom factions in Age of Wonder

Age of Wonders 4 is much more than a mere turn-based strategy game. It is a means through which players and fans create and develop a deep knowledge and understanding of diplomacy systems. Gamers also learn to appreciate the intricacy and literary richness of narrative-driven creations. Despite all this, the design of custom factions is what makes the game so interesting that the sequel is able to enjoy a ridiculous fanbase.

From magic, technology, and diplomacy, to warfare factions, Age of Wonders 4 provides players with so many options of factions they can comfortably choose from. With their own unique units, abilities, and playstyles, custom factions elicit a strange yet fantastic level of excitement to every player’s Age of Wonders 4 experience. Therefore, in order to maximize this experience and also get ahead in the process, gamers should know, desire and use the best custom factions.

The Draconic Empire

The Draconic Empire is one of the most sought-after custom factions because of its might and extremely brutal craft. The faction’s design derives its inspiration from the ultimate gaming fantasy; the dragon’s race. As a result, players should expect fire elementals and other fire-based units.

It is no surprise that this faction’s unit excels at dealing massive damage with their blazing hot breath attacks, fire spells especially the Dragon Lord fire spells, and their explosive abilities. However, as the saying goes, "water is fire's worst enemy," the Draconian Empire's scales are sadly no match against water attacks.

The Mechanist Order

As the name suggests, the mechanist order faction is highly dependable on technological advancement for its survival. The faction is made of humans, dwarves, and machines. Basically, the mechanic order manages its affairs as a real-time developed country would. Their diplomacy is generally friendly, like so many nations in the world today. Unless they are assured of impending danger in the short or long-term, their focus is on building a strong economy, creating allies, and more importantly developing their research and technology facilities.

Despite the fact that they lack magic unlike most other factions in the game, the mechanist order’s units have crazy access to advanced weapons, gadgets, and vehicles that give them a huge edge in combat.

The Theocracy of Light

How interesting is it that Age of Wonders 4 game developers created a faction that primarily runs on the concept of divinity? The Theocracy of Light units, humans, angels, and other light-based units, are completely devoted to the worship of the sun god and the protection of life. Players who enjoy or practice a religious-based lifestyle should definitely put this faction on their bucket list.

The Theocracy of Light units enjoy significantly powerful healing, buffing, and smiting abilities that extremely support their allies and give hell to their enemies. They also have high morale and can inspire their troops. Intriguingly their main flaw lies in the fact that they do not tolerate other religions.

The Underdark Drow

The classic fantasy race of dark elves, derived from the famous film Lord of The Rings, forms the foundational concept from which this faction is created. This faction therefore primarily consists of dark elves, spiders, and other conceivable creatures of the underworld.

The Underdark Drow’s units are considered to be masters of stealth, deception, and assassination in Age Of Wonders 4. They also possess the uncanny ability to maneuver unseen in the shadows, use poison, traps, and curses to weaken their foes, and then when the time is right strike with deadly precision.

The Wild Hunt

The Wild Hunt is one of the few factions that uniquely excels in both combat and diplomacy. The faction is composed of units known for their exemplary hunting skills such as beasts. Their surprisingly good diplomacy skills ensure that they are in harmony with the natural world and this majorly works to their advantage.

The Wild Hunt faction units enjoy unique powers such as they at will can summon animals, plants, and spirits to aid them in battle. They can also use elemental magic to control the weather and terrain much like God. However, their astounding lack of technology and civilization largely limits their options.

The Warforged Legion

The current heat and uncertainty over artificial intelligence, the concept that influenced The Warforged Legion faction development, makes this faction much more interesting to explore. The faction generally consists of artificial beings. They are the creations of a mysterious inventor who seeks to conquer the world with his army of machines.

The Warforged Legion units possess incredible strength, durability, and endurance that automatically make them formidable opponents. Since they are basically machines and therefore are in no capacity to make decisions, they have high loyalty levels, meaning they follow orders without question.

The Elementalists

The Elementalists are among the few factions designed from more than one concept; earth, fire, air, and water, much like the Avatar. This faction is therefore made up of elementals and various magic-based unique units.

This faction’s units have proven to be intimidating opponents based on their powerful ability to create elemental constructs that can fight for them, and then move on to viciously harness the raw energy of the elements to unleash ruthless attacks. As if not enough, they also get to enjoy high mana and have the ability to regenerate it quickly. However, the elementalists main weakness lies in their vulnerability to anti-magic attacks.

The Awakened

Just like Game of Thrones, The Awakened faction is based on the concept of ancient beings who have been awakened from a long slumber. This faction consists of very dark units such as the undead, and the vampires. Their narrative is that the Awakened’s units are the remnants of a fallen civilization that was brutally cursed by a dark god to rise from the dead. The faction is perfect for gamers who like zombie literary works.

The dark units in this faction enjoy unlimited access to necromantic magic capable of raising corpses, draining life force, and causing fear among their enemies. Also, just like zombies, they have an unsavory dependence on blood and souls, which if unavailable makes them awfully hungry and unstable.

The Xel'Naga

The Xel'Naga’s units are considered to have come from a mysterious yet ancient race. These consist of aliens, psionics, and other cosmic-based units. Also, these units constantly travel across the galaxy looking for new worlds to explore and colonize.

Xel'Naga’s units possess advanced technology that allows them to warp space-time, manipulate gravity and even create wormholes exactly like the scenes in Sci-fi movies. Through their significantly extensive psionic power, they are able to communicate telepathically, read minds and actually control matter ony with their thoughts. These abilities not only make them overconfident and they also sadly make them reckless which is their biggest weakness.

The Ratkin Armada

Most players question the significance of the Ratkin Armada faction because it is designed based on the concept of rat-like creatures. However, what this means is that, much like rats, the faction consists of a band of outcasts who survive by plundering ships, ports, and islands with their fleet of vessels.

Given their sea-based activities, the Ratkin Armada’s units enjoy access to naval warfare that gives them an unparalleled advantage in water battles. They also possess firearms and explosives that help them to cause chaos and as a result cause confusion among their enemies. They are also very cunning and often resort to using tricks such as bribes to achieve their intentions. On the negative side, they are interestingly very cowardly.
