11 Games That Need Sequels

These eleven games need a sequel like, yesterday.

There are some games that seem to get infinite, needless sequels. Then there are other games that we love that get an update every other year, or maybe once a console cycle. Then there are the ones that torture us by never receiving a proper sequel, or at least taking longer than anyone can stand. These twelve games need a sequel like, yesterday.

'Final Fantasy Tactics'

Not another remake. Not another "Advance" spin-off. A sequel. What Final Fantasy Tactics fans need is a proper entry in the series with challenge, fresh ideas, and an adult story line. Not another snowball fight simulator, like FFTA.

'Star Fox 64'

While there have been some mobile entries that sort of, almost came close to the feel of the original, we still haven't gotten a proper game to scratch this particular itch. It has gotten to the point where indie game developers are trying to make "spiritual successors" to the game. We all know what that means. The public is hungry. In fact it reminds me of another game that needs a new installment...

'XCOM (Terror from the Deep)'

The latest traditional XCOM games were both fantastic, and the spin-off 3rd person shooter was fine, I guess. But with the new console generation, we need a new XCOM game. I nominate a remake of the original sequel, Terror from the Deep. This sequel was different and creative, and it improved upon the original, while developing a feel all its own. How great would it be if the next Firaxis XCOM could do that on modern tech?

'Battletoads & Double Dragon'

For one, it would resurrect that awesome prank from the early days of 4chan Brainfalls. Seriously though, everybody loves over the top beat 'em up games. And consoles default to four-player now, which is perfect for these games. This one in particular combined two great franchises and did a great job of it.

'Quake 3 Team Arena'

This game was an absolute classic of multiplayer FPS, and there hasn't been one like it since. ID software seems to have basically forgotten how to make a multiplayer shooter, not that the last two single player FPS games were bad. A new Quake Arena game would be much appreciated in these days of COD.

'Sleeping Dogs'

This sleeper hit was huge with critics and players but failed to sell well initially. Steam sales and word of mouth have made up some of the damage, and hopefully that will be enough to spur a new installment. Jumping from car to car was never so fun.

'Okami'

Okami has a indirect sequel made for the Nintendo DS called Okamiden, but Okami needs a direct sequel. Seeing as Okami is owned by Capcom and the development team behind Okami, Clover, left Capcom to create Platinum Games, it's unlikely we'll see a true Okami sequel.

'Heavenly Sword'

Heavenly Sword actually had a sequel planned, and not only that, but it also had a sequel to that sequel planned. Sadly, because the game wasn't enough of a success, the two sequels planned for this series never materialized.

'Jade Empire'

While not quite as popular as some of Bioware's other games, Jade Empire still found it's way into the hearts of many gamers. The game had a great story with interesting plot twists, encouraged different play styles and offered three vastly different endings. This game deserves a worthy sequel.

'Dante's Inferno'

Dante's Inferno is a game that capitalized on God of War, like gameplay set within hell as described in the epic poem Inferno, the first part of Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy. The ending of this game opens it's story up to a possible sequel. It would be interesting to see how the developers could reimagine part two and three of Alighieri's Devine Comedy.

'Psychonauts'

Psychonauts is another one of those games that unfortunately undersold, despite how good the game actually was. It's hard to find a publisher willing to publish a sequel to an underselling game, but maybe a Psychonauts Kickstarter could be the answer.
