What is happening to me?

Why am I like this What the brain is doing during puberty

* Puberty Series Part 3: Mind Wars — Confusion, Self-Esteem, and Self-Control*

In Part 1, you learned how puberty triggers the alarm and how the body begins to change.

In Part 2, we looked at how testosterone changes the body—voice, height, skin, hair, and emotions, everything.

Now let’s get to the most important and difficult part of this series: **The Brain.**

Because the truth is, the biggest changes of puberty are happening not in the body, but in the brain.

#What’s happening in the brain?

Your brain is developing rapidly during puberty.

But there’s a problem with this development: it’s not happening at the same pace.

One part of the brain controls emotions—this part becomes active very quickly.

The other part, which is responsible for making decisions, thinking, and maintaining control, matures more slowly.

This means:

* You feel more

* But you don’t always make the right decisions

Because of this imbalance, puberty becomes an “emotional rollercoaster”.

# Why does confusion increase?

It often happens at this age that you don’t understand yourself.

Sometimes you’re happy, then suddenly sad.

Sometimes something seems very important, then later meaningless.

This happens because:

* The mind is generating new ideas

* New desires and feelings are emerging

* Old habits and new thinking are clashing

All of this together creates a state that we call “confusion”.

But remember: this confusion is a learning process, not a problem.

* Why does self-esteem decrease?

In puberty, you start comparing yourself to others.

* Why is he taller than me?

* Why does my voice sound weird?

* Why do I have pimples on my face?

These questions come to every boy’s mind.

Basically, your brain is trying to create your “identity”—who you are, and what you should be like.

At the same time:

* Self-doubt arises

* Insecurity increases

* Self-confidence may decrease

But all this is temporary. With time, your confidence returns—and stronger than before.

# Why do friends have such an impact?

At this age, friends’ opinions start to become very important.

You want:

* People to accept you

* Like you

* You to be part of the group

That’s why sometimes you do things you don’t really want to do.

This is because the brain starts to consider social acceptance as important as survival.

But remember one important thing here:

**The real power is to stick to your own thinking, not just make decisions to please others.**

# Why is anger more common?

Getting angry is common during puberty.

This is because:

* The emotional part is more active

* The brain's control system is not yet fully developed

Results:

* Getting angry over small things

Reacting quickly

* Regretting later

This is not a sign that you are "bad", but rather a sign that your brain is still learning.

* How to handle yourself?

Now the most important part: How to handle this phase?

# 1. Understand your emotions

Don't ignore your emotions.

Try to understand what you are feeling and why.

## 2. Take sleep seriously

Sleep is fuel for the brain.

Less sleep = more stress, more anger, more confusion

### 3. Keep the body active

Sports, running or exercise not only keeps the body but also the mind balanced.

### 4. Reduce screen time

Too much mobile or social media overloads the mind, especially at this age.

### 5. Talk to someone

If you don't understand something or you are worried, talk to a trusted person:

* Parents*Older sibling* Teacher?

This will give you clarity.

## A big truth

Adolescence may seem like a difficult time, but it is the most important development phase of your life.

This is the time when:

* You form your personality

* Develop your thinking

* Learn to make your own decisions

This is the phase that makes you a strong person.

---

## Will all this last forever?

No.

Over time:

* The brain matures

* Emotions become stable

* Self-confidence improves

What seems difficult today, will feel completely normal in a few years.

1. The brain develops unevenly during puberty

2. Emotions can be sharp and judgments can be weak

3. Confusion and self-doubt are normal

4. The influence of friends increases

5. The right habits can make this phase easier

# Conclusion of the series

Now you understand:

* How puberty begins

* What changes occur in the body

* Why the brain creates confusion

This knowledge will help you understand yourself better
