The Return of Thalidomide
The story of Thalidomide is one of the most tragic disasters in drug development history. It was prescribed to pregnant people for morning sickness in the late 1950s and early 1960s, but it caused serious birth defects. After the danger was discovered, thalidomide was pulled from shelves. However, it is still being used today for other conditions, and part of the reason we've resurrected the drug has to do with the same drug testing procedures that it inspired.

Congratulations to the Winners
The struggles of African Americans and women, as important as they are, have often overshadowed the struggles of Native Americans, an increasingly marginalized minority. Between 1950 and 1970, the American Indian rights movement experienced some major civic victories, but by the 1970s, Native Americans were still living in the "gray areas of society" and facing enormous social difficulties. By tracing the course of the Native American rights movement, its success or failure should become apparent, but this is one social movement that may not be so easily judged.

How To Master Your Emotions - Emotional Intelligence
How To Master Your Emotions - Emotional Intelligence Learning how to master your emotions is essential if you want to live a life that you alone can direct completely. Having absolute ‘control and power’ over your feelings in any given moment is one of the greatest skill sets you can master. It’s important to realize that whatever emotion you feel, you’re not feeling it because you HAVE to… you’re feeling it because you CHOOSE to. That’s right! You are the source of all your emotions - because you’re the one who creates them. You can feel any way you choose, at any given time. You don't need to have any specific reason to feel good. You can decide to just feel good right now, in this very moment - simply because you're alive, or because you want to. Having said that, there are three individual forces that influence the way you interpret and determine what you feel. These three forces have the ability to create any, and every, emotional state. If you want to learn how to master your emotions and choose which ones you feel consciously, you must first learn to understand these forces and how to use them to your advantage.

10 Types of Loneliness and How To Deal With Them
The 10 Types of Loneliness And How To Deal With Them When we think about loneliness, we tend to think about total isolation. We envision ourselves sitting in dark corners with nobody to communicate to - which is why the word itself tends to scare us. It’s natural to feel lonely when we’ve lost someone or something close to us - such as a significant other, a family member, or a pet. It’s also possible to feel lonely even when someone is surrounded by many others. Whatever the case may be, loneliness is something that most people go through at least once in their lives. When it comes to conquering loneliness, it’s important to recognize that defeating it isn’t solved by merely surrounding yourself with others. It may be easy for some to gather a rather large group of friends, but what’s most important is being able to connect with them on a real and emotional level. Human beings were made with the desire to find security and safety, which is why establishing deep connections with others becomes such a big part of our lives. We can make these relationships stronger by working on our connection skills with our friends and partners - or even speaking with a therapist. Without the much needed feeling of understandable connection to others, we start to feel rather lonely. And as that loneliness begins to grow inside of us - due to our lack of understanding - it can take a toll on our mental stability. That’s why learning about the different types of loneliness and how they can affect you is important.
