During the tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey on Sunday, March 8, 2021, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry shared a list of things people did not know about their marriage and their lives in the Royal Family.

One of the surprising things the public found out was that the couple was already married when millions of people around the world watched them say "I do" on May 19, 2018, in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle in the United Kingdom. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, officiated at the wedding for a second time. The first time was three days before the published televised ceremony.

Besides the couple, the Archbishop of Canterbury was the only person who was at the first ceremony that was a simple wedding that took place in the couple's backyard. It was just the three of them present because the couple wanted some privacy. Meghan revealed that she and Harry wanted a private wedding just for themselves before the official wedding took place in front of the entire world. Meghan added that she and Harry wanted to recite their vows that were just for the two of them.

During the official public ceremony, about 29 million reportedly watched in the United States and about 27.7 million reportedly watched in the United Kingdom.

Just as millions watched the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan, millions of people also watched Oprah With Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special. The 110-minute interview was watched by about 17.1 million on the first night the special aired in the United States and about 11 million people watched it when it aired in the United Kingdom a day later. Millions of more people around the world have watched the interview at other times and in other markets.

This was the first interview the couple had done since 2017. Even though Oprah had courted them for an interview long before, they did not consider it until now.

Four Other Bombshells

At least four other surprising things were revealed during the bombshell interview. Some of the things shocked royal fans the world over with revelations about what it's really like to be part of the Royal Family.

1. Newspapers all over the world reported that Meghan made Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, cry over a bridesmaid dress for her daughter, Princess Charlotte. Meghan said the rumor was the reversal of the truth. It was Kate who made Meghan cry. Kate apologized later and sent Meghan flowers.

2. Meghan revealed that in her time as a member of the family, she experienced suicidal thoughts. When she approached human resources for support, it was denied.

3. Someone in the Royal Family had a concern for Meghan and Prince Harry's baby's skin color before he was born. Prince Harry said he would not reveal who it was, but it was not his grandparents, Queen Elizabeth or Prince Phillip.

4. The couple revealed that Queen Elizabeth was not blindsided about their move to the United States as was reported in the media. They said there had been discussions about it for two years before they finally moved first to Canada and then to Los Angeles, California.

Good News for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex

Unlike their official announcement about Archie, the couple revealed the sex of the baby and when it is expected.

When Oprah asked Meghan about the baby, she said she wanted to wait until her husband joined the conversation. Prince Harry proudly exclaimed, "It’s a girl." He added that he is "grateful" to be expecting the fourth and final member of their family. He continued, "To have any child, any one or two, would be amazing. But to have a boy and then a girl, what more could you ask for? Now we’ve got our family, the four of us and our two dogs. It’s great," concluded the Duke of Sussex.
