I remember when I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease almost 20 years ago. It was not an easy process, and all I wanted was to not feel sick all the time. Long story short, my healing journey began once I changed my diet (Something most doctors won't tell you). Also, the more chemicals I removed from my everyday life, the better I naturally felt. While it may be a challenge, it's not impossible. My advice is to try not to lose your mind over it. Just do your best to create a healthy life for yourself one step at a time.

Living naturally in a toxic world has become more important than ever. Chemicals are present in many products we use daily, from the food we eat to the clothes we wear. These chemicals can be harmful and have been linked to numerous health issues such as cancer, reproductive problems, and developmental disorders. However, it is possible to live a life with less toxic load on your body by making small changes in your daily routine.

How do I start living toxin-free?

The first step to living a chemical-free life is to educate yourself about the harmful chemicals present in the products you use. Reading labels and doing research can help you identify harmful chemicals and make informed decisions when purchasing products. It is essential to read not just the ingredient list but also the warnings and precautions before using a product. An App I like to use to check ingredients is called EWG's Healthy Living. You can simply scan a products barcode and it will tell you if it's safe or not. It's super helpful!

Switching to natural and organic products is another important step in living toxin-free. Natural products are made using ingredients found in nature and do not contain synthetic chemicals. Organic products are produced without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and other chemicals that can harm the environment and our health. Choosing organic foods can also help reduce exposure to harmful chemicals.

When it comes to personal care products, there are many natural and organic options available. Shampoos, conditioners, and body washes can be made using natural ingredients such as coconut oil, aloe vera, and essential oils. My favorite shampoo is a Viori Shampoo Bar made with rice proteins, aloe vera, and other natural ingredients.

Natural deodorants are also an excellent alternative to conventional deodorants that contain harmful chemicals such as aluminum. Think about where you apply deodorant and all of your lymph nodes that are directly affected by it.

Household cleaning products are another source of harmful chemicals. Did you know it only takes 20 seconds for something on your skin to be absorbed into your bloodstream? Makes you think twice about the cleaning products you're using with your bare hands! Yikes! Switching to natural cleaning products can help reduce exposure to toxins. Natural cleaning products can be made using simple ingredients such as vinegar, baking soda, and essential oils. These ingredients are not only effective in cleaning but are also safe for the environment.

How do you stay healthy in a toxic environment?

There are several ways to stay healthy in a toxic environment. Let's think of the basics. First, one of the best ways is to eat a healthy and balanced diet by growing as much of your own food as possible. Eating a diet that is rich in meat and vegetables can help support your immune system and reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases. If possible, find a local farm that sells good quality meat and produce. Ask them about their farming practices. You won't know if you don't ask!

Regular exercise is another important factor in staying healthy. Exercise can help improve your mood, reduce stress, and strengthen your immune system. Exercise can also help your body eliminate toxins through sweat and other processes. Gardening is a great way to get that exercise for sure! Who needs a gym when you have a homestead?

Getting enough sleep is also essential for staying healthy. Lack of sleep can weaken your immune system and make you more susceptible to illnesses. A good night's sleep is necessary for your body to repair and regenerate.

Reducing stress is another important factor in staying healthy. Stress can have a negative impact on your physical and mental health. Simple ways to manage stress, such as practicing yoga, meditation, or deep breathing, can help reduce the impact of stress on your body. My favorite way to de-stress at the end of the day, is to have a nice hot foot bath with some Epsom salts and essential oils.

What is the quickest way toxins enter your body?

The quickest way toxins enter your body is through inhalation. Toxic chemicals can be found in the air we breathe, such as pollutants from factories, vehicles, and cigarettes. Inhalation of toxic fumes can cause respiratory problems and other health issues. As a result of eliminating toxins from my own life, I have become increasingly sensitive to synthetic fragrances. I find that when I am in proximity to fake-scented air fresheners, my throat starts to close, and I develop a wicked headache!

Making small changes in your daily routine will help to make a difference. Educating yourself about harmful chemicals, switching to natural and organic products, and making changes in your lifestyle can all help reduce your exposure to toxins. I hope this helps you start your journey in a healthy direction. Have questions? I'd love to help, let me know your thoughts in the comments.
