Let's Talk Women Pirates!
The most ruthless but caring

Above pictures is a book I am reading about a female pirate and her daughter. The daughter was raised completely differently than most women because of this. She was not raised to be submissive, but strong and powerful. She sees herself as weak because she is softer than her mother, but comes to realize that just is her own version of strong.

Another great read is a dragon pirate book with a woman pirate who has a son that is a bit scared of her, which is different than most soft motherly relationships with a son. I am related to a noblewoman who became a pirate. There is many women this way. They take their silks and cut them into pants and then gather some wool for the cold. Pictured below is Grace O'Malley the Pirate Queen. She did not have to start out dressing as a man like many others because she was a noblewoman who could use her riches and high amount of cattle to make herself respected. She is known for creating taking ship tolls in order to make passage to her claimed parts of the seas.

Women came forward to prove themselves to be pirates as well as men or better. They usually became tougher because of this. The pictures I have are from a pirate museum and in, so they are great was figures of the people and there are weapons that were put into the museum from ceases pirate ships. Pictured below is Anne Bonny and Mary Read. They worked together as best friends. Anne only dressed as a man when she was trying to blending and Mary always dressed like a boy. They were apart of a not so talked about throuple along with Jack Rackham.

The signature hat seen on many pirate costumes are not from being a rebel pirate, but from being a privateer which is a legal pirate for the government. Of course pirating in a way the government wants is not seen as a horrid crime!

The true smuggler pirates wore tied bandanas or fur hats. This mostly depended on the country the pirate came from and what their job in the past had been. Former farmers could be wearing straw hats and former soldiers their old military hat. Many of the ships used for piracy were stolen from the government. Pictured below is pirate Sam Bellany who became a captain after overthrowing the Marianne ship he was a crew member of. Bellany wanted to cease English slave ships that his captain refused to touch. He mostly wore a red tied back cloth that many people add a "pirate hat" on his head, though he never wore one in this style.

Pirates had different motivations. Many of the men had the one of treasure like Black Beard on the ship Queen Anne's revenge.

Some women also did this but most of them and a few men smuggled medicines people couldn't get a hold of or rum that wasn't allowed during the prohibition era unless prescribed by a doctor. That seen as "stealing" was just was the law said, it was more so helpful in my opinion. Many pirates used underground catacombs and tunnels near docks to smuggle goods. Pirates were revered for treating slaves as actual people instead of objects. Many pirate women were not taken down but pardoned because of how their "crimes" were seen or they were sent to prison for feeling they could not kill a woman. The pirate man Black Beard was considered related to the devil and was killed eventually.

Please do still by a pirate museum to learn if you see one, they are great to see!
