If You Could See The Future Before It Happened, How Would It Affect You

Imagine you know how a real-life story is going to end. What kind of burden would it be, and what kind of power would it give you? Would you share the knowledge with others, or would you keep it to yourself?

Imagine that you’re sitting in a waiting room with family. There’s been an emergency and a loved one is in the emergency room being treated. Imagine a doctor coming out and sitting with your family, giving you horrific news. This has happened to many people and probably is happening somewhere right now.

Now, imagine you’re sitting there, and a flood of “emotions” washes over you. You’re seeing things in your mind's eye that doesn’t make any sense. The things you see go completely against what the doctor with years of education, experience, and specialized training gives him to feel comfortable telling your family the worst news, a loved one is going to die. Imagine that you’re only seven years old. This is your seventh birthday.

Imagine this exact scenario. It’s happening again. You’re back in the emergency room with a relative. You know that there’s been a catastrophic loss of blood. You know enough to know that cancer is a killer. You are smart enough to know that the person they’re telling you won’t survive a transfer to a more skilled facility is in such poor shape that it makes sense to believe them, but you don’t. You see it playing out differently.

Woosh! Like a rush of senses all firing at once, it washes over you again. You’re older now. You understand that there are things about the universe that science has yet to explain. Once again, you see the end of the story. It again goes against what the experts are saying.

In both instances, the experts were wrong, and you were right. What you saw happening was what happened. The story was going to end how you foresaw it ending. You know that each story is like a chapter in a book but you somehow saw the ending to the story, before the conclusion happened, and had nowhere near the expertise to counter what they were saying.

Imagine being older, and this occurrence happens occasionally. You’re now in your early thirties. You’re getting to know a lovely young woman. Imagine you can see how the story ends, and how they’ll look in their wedding dress. Now, imagine you can identify the person they marry, even though they are currently with you. Now, imagine that it happens exactly the way you see it happening.

How are you doing this?

What Are You Experiencing

What are you experiencing when you see the future? In all likelihood, you’re experiencing precognition if you see the future before it happens. Precognition, from the Latin “prae” and “Cognito”, is the reported phenomenon of seeing the future or becoming directly aware of future events before they happen.

People have reported experiencing clairvoyant, or precognizant events, for hundreds of years. During certain points in time, these people were revered and others persecuted.

While most clairvoyants claim to be able to see the future clearly, it’s not something seen through eyes, but visions or images that pop into the mind of the psychic and are usually relevant to the situation. Many of them claim to be able to focus on an object, person, or subject and see the outcomes of their stories.

There are different terms for people who see the future. Some of them are well-known, while others are lesser known or understood.

  • Terms For Those That Tell The Future
  • Augur: someone that predicts events based on omens or signs. The name stems from ancient Rome which had officials that augured the outcomes of things for the Romans.
  • Cassandra: The name comes from a character in Greek mythology that was cursed to predict unfortunate events in vain.
  • Oracle: Someone who serves as the mouthpiece of a deity. The term currently refers to anyone who’s respected for the sagacity of their opinions or predictions.
  • Prophet: Most known because of the Christian bible, a prophet reveals through divine inspiration, receiving direct messages from God.
  • Seer: Someone that predicts events, especially a crystal gazer. Also refers to insightful modern experts.
  • Futurist: Someone that offers opinions or insights about the future, based on past and current events. Futurists are good at predicting societal issues based on trends.

Do any of these describe you? If they do, then you’ve got an ability that not everybody has developed. What would you do if you were capable of predicting the future, seeing how events end and doing it accurately? Would you share your gift with others, knowing that they might not be able to handle knowing the truth?

Knowing The Future

Seeing the future and knowing the future are different things. Nostradamus is considered a seer because he predicted things that came true. Nostradamus predicted everything from the Great Fire of London to the French Revolution. He also predicted the end of the world.

While Nostradamus may have been a seer, the future is always in motion. With every move we make, the future is forever being written. The smallest of decisions can rewrite the future of a story. You may go right instead of left when you’re on your way to work. It might differ from your normal route. That left turn on that day might have put you in a position to get hit by a fast-moving car. The future of your story changed.

Nostradamus has predictions for 2022. One of those was that the leader of Russia would be assassinated. While nobody but him knew what he based his predictions on, there are only 33 days until the end of 2022. That one isn’t looking likely. What did he get right, this year? These are all open to interpretation from his writings.

  • Queen Elizabeth’s passing around 2022. The Complete Prophecies for the Future by Mario Reading details Nostradamus’s prediction about the queens passing. Nailed it!
  • A Shower Of Asteroids will destroy the Earth. Nostradamus predicted a great fire would fall from the sky for three nights. The cause would seem awesome and marvelous, soon after bringing an earthquake. This year has seen a string of what NASA calls close calls with asteroids, but the earth remains intact. 50/50 correct.
  • Solar Storms: Nostradamus predicted solar storms along with the other natural disasters we’ve seen in 2022. Earth hasn’t collapsed in on itself, however, so again he was only half right. 50% correct.
  • Economic crisis: Nostradamus predicted an economic crisis by 2022 when inflation would run out of control He predicted alternate currencies would rise up and be assets seen as worth having. The US Dollar hasn’t collapsed yet, so he’s 2 for 3 in this one. 66.666% correct.
  • A Nuclear Bomb: Possibly the hardest one to think about, considering the threats and constant news of nuclear-capable missiles being prepared by Russia and North Korea. It hasn’t happened yet, but only naive people assume it couldn’t. 0% correct.

How It’ll All End

For a moment, imagine that you know how it will all come to an end, whatever that means to you. The end might simply be your demise, or it might be how it’ll end for others. It might mean the end of the world. Would you be able to keep it to yourself?

There are few people in the world that will know when the end is near. Most people can imagine that should an extinction-level event be upon us the governments of Earth would attempt to keep it hush-hush. That’s how they do it in all the movies, and it’s always to keep the world from falling into chaos until the last minute.

What if you’re one of those people that can see into the future, and know that there’s much less time in front of us than we think? Would you share it with the world, knowing that most people would scoff at you? Or, would you do your best to live out your days?

Finally, imagine that you’re the boy in the beginning, knowing that the experts are wrong at seven years old. Knowing when things would end, and seeing into people’s futures, time and time again finding out you’re right. Would you want to share what you see, or would you keep the coming months to yourself?

Cultures across time and all over the globe have been interested in predicting the future. Sooth sayers, seers, oracles, and the like that you mentioned there. And yet it is Nostradamus who got the most attention. Yet his predictions were, as you pointed out, barely passing 50% most of the time. Still, it is a fascinating topic and one that humans will likely keep exploring until we are all extinct.
